Dear Members,

Ayurveda is not simply what herb for what disease. It is "Veda" aimed

at total health and happiness (Happiness impossible unless you have

health). Hers is an issue, wherein perhaps we are passing on our

Karma to future generation. On this list, much material has been

posted giving the impression that animal source food is best,

especially fish. One of the post suggesting this is from the author

himself.

But there is a very distressing research which gives much food for

thought. Are we spoiling next generations health by passing on

chemical burden absorbed through food and environment. And if we are

doing it through breast feeding, what may happen to us when we eat

animals who too have more chemical burden inside them, in addition to

negative hormones generated by fear, grief etc prior to slaughter in

very inhuman way? Todd and Vinod have already some explaination on

this.

For those who may not have enough time to go through this lengthy but

deeply researched summary, conclusions:

1. Eat a diet low in animal fats (including dairy products) to reduce

exposure to fat-soluble POPs. When you eat animal fats (e.g. milk),

do so from organic sources as much as possible. If cost is an issue,

prioritize organic animal products first, followed by plant foods

such as vegetables, fruits, and grains. One recent study offers the

most compelling proof yet that eating organic foods significantly

reduces a child's intake of dangerous pesticides, so encourage your

children to eat an organic diet as well. (44)

2. Reduce your consumption of freshwater fish to minimize exposure to

PCBs and mercury. (45) Remain aware of advisories and make choices

accordingly. (For information on advisories, see

www.epa.gov/waterscience/fishadvice/advice.html.) Also, minimize

consumption of commercial fish that are high in mercury, such as

swordfish, shark, mackerel, and tuna steaks. Farmed salmon has also

been reported to have high levels of PCBs.

It is interesting to know how much stress on breast feeding is given

by countries like Sweden, in sharp contrast to U.S., Canada, etc. The

article clearly points out the need to look after mothers first, if

we wish to make next generation healthier. Hence, all moms, unite and

demand your rights from the govts.
