Guest guest
Dear Dr. Bhate (and others), I was absolutely shocked and digusted on reading the file on Mumbai slaughter house. Being an Indian, I felt as if someone had punched me in the stomach. PLEASE let me know what I (and several others, I am sure) can do to close this revolting slaughter house. I am sure there are other places in India (and probably in some other countries too) when this inhuman practice takes place. As far as the fear in the animals is concerned, this brings back painful memories for me. As a child growing up in Calcutta, India, I used to watch helplessly as goats were dragged into the sacrificial alter in Kalighat (a very famous Hindu temple in Calcutta) and their heads would be severed. Similarly, stray dogs used to be caught on the street with a pair of enormous tongs and taken away to be neutered or out to sleep. Even the arrival of the trucks (that carried such dogs away) and the men with those tongs would send all the dogs into a frenzy, accompanied by dramatic barking and yelping. It was horrible! Sorry if I have gone on and on....but reading this article evoked some feelings which had to be released. Apologies if I offended anyone. Guest guest
Anita: I too read same the article, and it is far worse here in the states! I found your system far more humane, sad but humane. There was a recent article about a pig farm, where the men just brutally beat the poor pigs.....just because they could. No rhyme or reason to it. The men are being prosecuted for their heinous acts.
