Guest guest
Dear Members The subject of food receives considerable attention in most querries. And why not? A proper food makes us not only happy but contented, warm and smiling. Good foods are nutritious, nurturing, wholesome and satisfying. They should also be intelligent, and balance the Tri- doshas of mind and body. See the file stored on group website "Food_Properties.doc". The food issues are divided in three posts. In the first post today, author, being veggie, discusses various principles to be used while selecting the vegetarian foods, leaving non-vegetarian foods to others. In Message No. 1356, the author had indicated the possibility that chemical weapons are already out. After many more meditations, the answer to that feeling is provided in second post tomorrow. The chemical weapons have damaged our food, by modifying the genes, and the culprits are the scientists. The most serious issue `obessity' is touched upon in a new light, in today's and also third post, day after tomorrow. In search of Energy The food we eat should be lively. Consisting of energy boost (Jeeva shakti) we are looking after. We feel hunger when our energy (blood glucose) becomes depleted. To get satisfied Jeeva shakti foods must be eaten, not just stuffing ourselves. To understand what is Jeeva shakti, have you noticed how a freshly plucked vegetable from farm, looses the shine as it is transported to a city wholesale market and then retailer brings it to your neighborhood shop. The shine on the fresh vegetable, or a fresh young leaf growing during `Vasant' season, is nothing but Jeeva Shakti, mainly made up of earth+water elements. In sunlight, the shine is caused by this water part. The fresh, organic, home-cooked food has the power to carry minerals from earth and Jeeva shakti to our brain and body. The foods which satisfy and nourish are having more Jeeva shakti. Preserved, frozen, processed foods and leftovers, on the other hand, have lost that Jeeva shakti. Fridge or cold storage cannot increase Jeeva shakti. Such foods leave our body unsatisfied and craving for more. Since these junk foods are void of Jeeva shakti they cannot support the demand of the body, so we end up eating more and craving for more, without ever getting nourished or fulfilled. This is the way we easily gain weight. Plants, trees do not have need to move from place to place; hence God has provided them wilth less Jeeva shakti as compared to Animals who have to move and hunt. Hence they have more Jeeva shakti. Hence Todd recommends that all veggies feel happier when they take something from other animals. Ghee, eggs, milk, etc. Did we not grow most rapidly and healthily on mothers milk. Thus animal derived foods have more Jeeva shakti and as Guru Khalsa pointed out in yesterdays post, Animal food also has Karma hidden inside it. What he calls Karma, the author terms it as intelligence. Despite much progress in science, this Jeeva shakti, Karma etc has to be believed as indirectly proven. Can anybody show gravitation, electricity directly? There presence has to be accepted as an axiom. To produce 1 kg blood, 40 kg food is needed. And 1 kg blood, after various complex chemical processes turns into 'Veerya' in 49 days, just 1 tsp or about 5 gms. THis is the highest derived dhatu. Full of Jeevashakti of 40 kg food. Hence Yoga science recommends preserving 'Veerya'. And in fact, since Veerya does not get stored in the body for a long time, if unused till 24 (boys) or 18 (girls) it provides a health protection in the form of moons in the bottom of nails, where they connect the fingers. This process of converting food in Sapt dhatus, if gets disturbed anywhere, then conversion to higher dhatus stops after Meda dhatu. This is the secret of 'Obessity', causing increase of Meda and storage in various parts of body. Thus sapt-dhatu proces is similar to conversion of large old volumes in library to microfiche. It is connected to nervous system through pituitary gland. The spinal injections during C-section and other surgical procedures disturbs the endocrine gland program stored in Pituitary and is the secret of increased obessity after C-section or menopause. Always Hungry, a fire leading to Obessity? The first thing we can do to avoid feelings of false hunger and cravings is to increase the Jeeva Shakti in meals by eating, fresh, home-made meals, and avoiding spicy fast foods. When the dough is kneeded by mother, she is sending reiki into it, which children receive automatically. Entire solar system obtains energy from Sun. The grains, vegetables, fruits obtain this energy in different proportions and we get it from them in readily usable form. This is the secret of Panchgavya medicines. The cow grazing in the sun, has a special suvarna nadi to absorb sun's energy and transfer to her milk, urine etc. That craetes Aurium hydroxide in her milk, urine etc. and also the reason why her milk, curd, ghee is yellowish. She gives her Suvarna, which otherwise is availabel in a number of ayurvedic medicines as suvarna bhasma. We also need to eat a variety of foods with all six tastes. All tastes, viz. sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter and astringent foods satisfy the body. Tastes are associated with various fundamental elements of universe as follows: Bitter: Air + Ether(Aakash) Astringent: Air +water Pungent: Air +Fire Sweet: Earth+water Salty: Earth+Fire Sour: Water+Fire We need a balanced combination of tastes in our daily diet. Cooked food is also more nourishing than raw foods. Raw foods are harder to digest and can diminish agni. Similarly, new harvested grains should be kept unused for 6 months, as new grains weaken Agni. When agni is weak, the body creates ama (accumulated toxins), which clogs the channels and prevents the body from receiving nutrients from food. This, in the end, results in cravings. Eat enough but don't overeat. My grand-ma used to say, "Stomach should be half full after main meal. Quarter space should be left for water and another quarter for churning action". Sweets for the heart Pensive mood/depression/anxiety results from imbalance in Sadhaka Pitta, which governs the working of heart. When this gets disturbed, depression is generally the result. The sweet taste pacifies pitta and Vata, which explains our cravings for sweets. While foods such as sweets, chocolates, ice-creams provide the sweet taste, they lack the Jeeva shakti to satisfy brain, and craving does'nt stop. On the other hand, a piece of sweet, juicy fruit, soaked dates or raisins, milk- date shakes or mango shakes, Gulkand, Drakshavaleha is also a great pitta-pacifying sweet. These will saisfy the brain and heart. Amongst all such foods, ghee is best, preferred as "animal food" and also gives complete nutrition. Ghee must be from grass fed country cow. Foods to pacify Vata Anxiety, Worries and mental imbalance are the result of aggravated Vata. To calm the mind, easy-to-digest, nourishing meals and spices such as cumin and coriander, fennel open the micro channels of the brain. In addition to the above-mentioned sweets, walnuts, almonds and coconut milk are especially supportive for the mind. The spices also help open up the channels of the mind, heart and the rest of the body-mind system. Some universal principles Nature produces foods in each region and season, suitable for species residing there. Hence use local foods as far as possible. Perhaps this should be said about herbs also. The author tried Korean herbs in India with a limited success. Thus local herbs are more kind to those who are grown from the minerals of the motherland. If one looks at the sickness as unbalance in doshas, by ingesting herbs having ideal balanced doshas, he is trying to align himself with the food ingested. Nature has made various fruits and herbs to resemble the shapes and characteristics of some of our organs. It has been found that these fruits/herbs are very useful in diseases related to those organs. For instances: Akhrot: for brain disorders; Almond: for eyes, Apple/Amalaki: Heart Grapes: for lungs; Cashewnut: for kidneys; Mangoes, Papaya: for Stomach Guava: for Uterus/Ovaries; Banana: Sex power, Gotu Kola (Brahmi) and Ginkgo Biloba: Brain; Coconut: Brain, hair; Horse gram: strengthening testicles, increasing sperms. There are a number of other herbs/fruits, they are left to "group members" to discover during meditation. It is interesting to know that Ayurveda belives in "what you eat so you become" Thus if you eat long slender vegetables, you will also become slender. On the other hand, if you eat round and heavy vegetables/fruits, you will also become curvy. Brinjal for instance, is believed to cause obessity. So is Pottato. But let me pose a question. Many of us know that a boiled and smashed potato pulp is used to grow micro organisms in Laboratories. Though potato is liked so much by these organsims, none of them do not touch it when not harvested, lying inside the soil. In fact, Potato does not need any pesticide. It is most unattacked food. And the only way it becomes unusable is when due to hot environment, it sprouts in the storage. It is so full of fertilization power that it sprouts rapidly. Hence, it is liked by everyone all over the globe. Potato, good when boild with skin and eaten without frying. It does not cause any obessity, contrary to thing by most. Here we conclude first part of this topic, the question of producing food will be discussed in tomorrows post. Dr. Bhate
