dear kk

Coleus forkskohlii is the genus and species name of "Makandi," a herb

of relatively minor importance in Ayurveda, a member of the mint

family, found in Sri Lanka and south India

Coleus forkskohlii specifically isn't mentioned in any nighantu I've

seen, and thus there are no traditional uses of C. forkskohlii

(i.e. you would have to survey the ethnobotanical literature)

Coleus forkskohlii has undergone some investigation for its benefits in

bronchial asthma, congestive heart failure, glaucoma, psoriasis,

hypothyroidism and hypertension, and has been introduced into practice

and popularized by the naturopathic community

specifically, C. forkskohlii contains a diterpene called forskolin that

is an activator of adenylate cyclase, leading to an upregulation of

cyclic AMP, enhancing tissue metabolism. supposedly, this leads to:

an inhibition of platelet aggregation

an inhibition of mast cell degranulation

a relaxation of smooth muscle in arteries and lungs

an enhancement of the strength and rate of contraction in the heart

an enhancement of insulin secretion

an enhancement of thyroid function

an enhancement of the breakdown of fat

reduces intraocular pressure

I have no experience with the herb at all, so i cannot validate the

claims above

many of these claims are excessively enthusiastic and not based on

tradition, and hence, cannot be trusted.
