I agree with you that they are similar, only that a jew probably

wouldn't consider halal to be kosher, and vice versa

but this is largely an issue of political/cultural/religious bias

i think that the islamic pattern of eating also developed, in part or

in whole, simply as a reflection of local eating patterns at the time,

reflected in the tribal nomadic practices of the bedouins

 

all semetic/arabic peoples, and indeed everybody on the planet, evolved

from a similar hunter-gatherer lifestyle
