Guest guest
i would like to hear of people's results in this regard most people not wanting children aren't really wanting to risk pregnancy personally, i am skeptical that only a tsp of turmeric powder could have a contraceptive activity anyway, i wouldn't want people to risk the rest of their lives based on a hypothesis the only study i could find on the antifertility effect of turmeric is: Garg, S. K. (1974) Effects of Curcuma longa on fertility, Planta medica ,26 , 225-227 The petroleum ether, alcoholic and aqueous extracts of rhizomes of Curcuma longa inhibited fertility when administered by gavage on days 1-7 of pregnancy at doses of 100 or 200 mg/kg to female albino rats. Studies in rabbits indicated doses of up to 200 mg/kg of the extracts did not produce anti-ovulatory effects (Garg, 1974). If we extrapolate the to humans (based on weight) a minimum effective dose would be 11,000 mg, or about 2 tsp but as the study demonstrates from the above, this might not be enough to inhibit ovulation either i think Neem is a more promising candidate, perhaps taken with turmeric (this combination has been used to kill parasites, and what are little fetuses if not, er, a kind of parasite ;-) > > Incidently, came to know about Turmeric as contraceptive through > tribals.
