between prakritti and vikriti! Oh I need some schooling big time to understand

Hi Bon

prakriti is your constitution, what you are born with

vikriti is your disease-state

despite the plethora of cosmopolitan-style questionairres to determine prakriti

in

various texts it can be very difficult to correctly determine one's prakriti

based on

these - they should not be trusted

especially when such and such a diet is recommended - this is sheer nonsense and

debases Ayurveda to nothing more than a simple algorithm

generally speaking, physical features like build and structure relate to

prakriti, while

vikiriti affects/masks/colors the manifestation of prakriti

one way to think of prakriti is to relate it to astrology

prakriti is your birth chart, vikriti is your transit chart

prakriti can help you determine innate characteristics and traits, but these may

morph

overtime, depending on the transits

thus one way to determine prakriti is to examine your natal chart, and then

correlate

this with physical observation

a good vaidya with jyotisha skills can help in this

hopefully where we end up isn't the same place where we were born, and to this

extent, some feel that prakriti is not a static concept, but consists of a

changing

manifestation, i.e. everytone becomes vattic as they age, irregardless of what

might

think the prakriti is

single dosha (eka) prakriti are relatively easy to determine, but dual

(samsarga) and

all three (sannipatta) can be difficult to determine, esp. with an overlying

vikriti

prakriti is your state of health when you are healthy, the minor problems

associated

with being you, e.g. i tend to be skinny (vata), i tend to be quite warm

(pitta), i tend

have moist skin and hair (kapha) etc.

vikriti is the disease, the bigger problems that create obstructions in your

life, e.g. i

have experienced serious weight loss (vata), i am intolerably hot (pitta), i

have really

greasy skin (kapha), etc.

despite this, i know several vaidyas that have personally expressed their doubts

over

the utility of prakriti, and yet, it is considered to be of exceptional

important by some

writers

IMO, prakriti is a relaively minor concept in Ayurveda and isn't as important as

some

might think, and i often spend little time trying to decipher it, because most

people

are like an onion - i have to spend some time peeling them to arrive at the

nucleus or

core of who they are

i have to say that also don't find it helpful on the list when people mention

what they

think their prakriti is because most people lack the skills/experience to

determine

this accurately, and as a result, i simply ignore it
