Would you also include Kalmegh, Bhumya Amalki, Aloe and Bitter Gourd in the

below list ? Is Kwath a good form to take these ? Are 2 months in a year

good enough period for the cleanse ? If yes, would the months of Chaitra and

Vaishakh (Spring months) be best ?

cleanse the liver/blood and remove mucus by implementing dietary

changes and the use of bitter and spicy herbs, long term

e.g. bhringaraja, katuka, barberry, daruharidra, dandelion, haridra,

kushta, guduchi, pippali, ginger etc.

EFAs, no smoking/coffee/alcohol, no flour/sweets, lots of leafy greens,

clean animal protein etc.

yes to all the herbs

anything bitter generally is cleansing due to the "scraping" activity of bitter

some of these herbs, such as Kalmegh are quite cooling and may need to be

balanced with pungent herbs as well

Kwatha is best for roots, barks and seeds, phanta for aerial parts, churna for

all

aloe i think is best as fresh juice, bitter gourd in food

as for duration, it really depends on the condition and intent

e.g. for a general cleanse vs skin disease vs. cancer, etc...

even a 2 week detox can be very helpful for most suffering from ama

in out patient facilities we often cleanse a little, and build a little, esp. in

chronic cases with debility

in which case the above bitter/pungent herbs may be mixed with more building,

anabolic herbs

in terms of season, spring is best for cleansing

for me here in Calgary, that's still a few months away, believe it or

not!
