Oh, poor woman, I too was down for two days with pain so severe, it would make

me vomit! Menopause is a wonderful thing, after going through that! I don't

miss it one bit!

one important issue not mentioned is the role that eicosanoids such as

prostaglandins, leukotrienes etc. play in regulating menstruation

this deficiency isn't mentioned of course in Ayurveda, but due to

changes in our diet and the consumption of refined oils and transfatty

acids, it has become a prevalent problem that can be masked by herbal

supplementation

the long term repercussions of this deficiency are profound, and

underlie many disease including atherosclerosis, diabetes, chronic

inflammation, and cancer

in otherwords, avoid all fried food and refined oils

use only olive oil, ghee, and fresh unrefined sesame oil

eat meat that has been fed grass, not grain

increase consumption of leafy greens

and supplement with fish oils, = to 1000 mg ea EPA/DHA, daily

herbs such as guggul, guduchi, turmeric, triphala and ginger, also

seem appropriate to correct apana and esp. liver function, which

underlies many menstrual disorders

afterall, its the liver's job to suck all the blood out of the pelvic

cavity against gravity via the portal vein, and when the liver is

backed up, the portal vein is backed up, and pelvic congestion results.

i.e. besides an EFA deficiency, the problem of dysmenorrhea (painful

menstruation) is fundamentally caused by pelvic stagnation

in Ayurvedic terms this is apana vayu, but also extends beyond apana,

and specifically to the liver (ranjaka etc.)

btw, aloe (kumari) juice is a good liver herb, bitter/sweet in taste,

and cooling in action
