Guest guest
what would cause a person to lose their appetite completely in an other wise healthy body?? All blood work is normal, urine, is normal, colonoscopy was normal. I do produce mucous or some thing is in my throat like a furball, constantly trying to swallow this lump in my throat, it drives me crazy, between that and the tinnitis, I find it hard to meditate, in a peaceful setting. Plus I am starving to death, I am sure!! Bon
Guest guest
Hi Bon the nature of the question indicates to me that the problem may lie within the nervous system in Chinese medicine what you are experiencing is called "plum pit qi" according to Bensky and Barolet (Chinese Herbal Medicine, Formulas and Strategies), "...this condition is know as plum-pit qi (mei he qi) and is said to result from emotional upset due to circumstances which the patient figuratively cannot swallow. The qi thereupon becomes constrained and the Lungs and Stomach lose their ability to move the qi downward. This in turn leads to problems with the transportation and transformation of fluids, which leads to the formation of phlegm. The phlegm clashes with the qi and ultimately lodges in the throat." sounds like you? you might try the Chinese formula Ban Xia Hou Po Tang (Pinellia, Magnolia bark, Poria, fresh Ginger, Perilla leaf), and give it a shot. this is where knowledge of other systems can greatly aid in an understanding of Ayurveda your condition might be described as a kaphaja condition, when in fact the problem relates more to the upward ascension of apana vayu; therefore breathwork can be helpful, trying to bring vata back to its home in the lower abdomen, as well as grounding herbs one thing, try increasing the length of exhalation to inhalation two-fold, i.e. count 8 for exhalation and 4 for inhalation, during meditation- this can help to bring apana back down although Ayurveda is an ancient venerable system, it is ultimately a damaged system (mostly because of the British, who may it illegal upon pain of death), and thus many practical understandings remain lost much of this knowledge is reputed to be fiercely guarded by the social/brahmanic elite of India (e.g. the ashta vaidyas of Kerala), who won't share it (for a variety of reasons, some good, others suspect). Much of this secret knowledge is unknown to BAM trained physicians As a general rule of thumb, I recommend that ALL of you study ALL systems of medicine, and try to look for correspondances and links, to fashion a more comprehensive and truly complementary understanding of healing the correspondences are there, e.g. in the triple burner (san jiao) of Chinese medicine (which most TCM practitioners don't understand fully), and the concept of the doshas residing in the three sthanas (e.g. upper, middle and lower). The Chinese don't understand it fully because it is a humoral concept, and don't really apply a system of humors in their practice. Similarly, there are aspects of TCM which have much to offer Ayurveda, especially in diagnosis. to borrow a phrase from my colleague and friend Michael Tierra, I am very much a "planetary" herbalist (interestingly, you nickname describes another ancient and venerable system of healing, i.e. that of Bon po, the medical system of Tibet). best...
