BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER

Hello everyone,

I am a practitioner student, looking for information on the ayurvedic

view of mental illness; specifically how Ayurveda would approach

borderline personality disorder. I have searched the archives but,

while there is some good information on general mental illness, could

not find anything on this particular disorder or anything

approximating it. I'm at a bit of a loss, as I understand that BPD

probably does not exist as such in Ayurveda.

Can anyone supply some information on this topic, either generally or

specifically, or refer me to some printed or online resources?

(Please, I have already David Frawley's _Ayurveda and the Mind_.)

This is strictly for research purposes, and there is no particular

patient involved. I would be most grateful for any assistance.

Regards,

Erydani

Dear Erydani,

It is obvious that you wont find modern pychiatric terms in ancient

ayurvedic texts. However a lot of material is available if one goes

about in the right manner. Unfortunately there are no good books

which deal in detail with this topic. Whatever material is available

is very superficial. There are some good books available in regional

Indian languages but none of them are translated in English.

Still I would suggest you refer to my reply to a similar query on

mental illness in message no. 467.

I repeat a line from the same "I would suggest you read a

book "Mystics, Shamans and Doctors" by Dr.

Sudhir Kakkar (also read

http://www.healthlibrary.com/reading/banyan1/chap1.htm)"

Also if avaialble read the following book

Best of luck in your research.

Do let us know your findings.
