Hello my name is Jim and I am a Vata Pitta. I am a vegitarian and

only eat a little dairy, cheese and ice cream. I very seldom drink

any alcohol. Before breakfast I have a cup of tea, usually green tea

or gotu kola without and sugar then I I drink a glass of water.

During my work day I drink a half gallon of water, maybe once a week

I will drink a soda, coke. When I get home from work I will drink a

glass or two of water and I try to not drink anything after 6:30

because I go to bed by 8:00. Even with all that I drink troughtout

the day I always feel thirsty which I do not understand, I have also

add a whole house humidifier thinking the heat was drying me out. And

this leads to another question, I end up getting up n the middle of

the night sometimes only once sometime twice to go to the bathroom to

get rid of water, do you also think that i may have a weak bladder?

Jim:

I know just what you are going through, it seems more I drink, which is a little

over 100 oz. per day, the thirstier I get. I am getting better about getting up

in the night to pee though. Maybe once, and that's around 4:30a.m. Like you I

am trying not drink after six.

I pushed it back to four o'clock so I now am just getting up once. I wonder why

this extra thirst happens?? I shouldn't call it thirst, it is more of a dryer

mouth.

Dear Jim and Bonnie,

I will try to explain in simple language the reason for frequent

thrust.

Body requires water to keep blood adequately thin and also to

regulate the salt and other mineral contents in blood. When water

content falls short, large intestine sucks water out of stool causing

dry stool and constipation. When water contents exceed or salt

contents exceed, excess urine removes it.

The thirst is the result of signals caused by nerves in throat, which sense

dryness in mouth as a result of less saliva. If

salt content in blood is excess but water content less, thirst

signals develop so that body can get rid of excess salt and minerals,

as also Vitamins B, C , through urine. These vitamins cant be

stored, so that they must be taken fresh each day.

Thus thirst and urination is the way body regulates blood consistency

as well as salt, mineral and vitamin balance.

Nowadays, people take salt in excess of 6 gm per day, whereas normal

reqirement is only 3 gms per day. Spicy food requires excess salt to

balance the spices.

Hence, in case you wish to drink less water and less visits to wash

room, reduce salts and spices in food. Yogis mediatating for hours at

a strech eat boiled vegetabls without salt. All naturally occuring

grains, pulses, vegetables contain adequate salt and minerals. But we

add extra salt for getting taste and extra saliva. More saliva needs

more water to be drunk. Just try a diet with very little salt. Salt

is also driven out through perspiration, which also requires water.

If you sleep in humidified room, more perspiration, increasing the

water needs of the body.

Another reasaon for extra water needs of body is iodized salt. It is

99.99% pure sodium chloride plus iodine added. Essential minerals get

removed and you take pure NaCl, causing mineral deficiency. Body then

tries to find minerals through water. curezone.com gives some

explaination about salt.

Regards

Dr. Bhate
