Currently she is on Zantac but its not very helpful. Occasionally, she spits up not so much but she has trouble in getting sleep. Any help would be appreciated. Guest guest
Dear Manvi, When dealing with a 4 month old baby, it is better to avoid hard medication as far as possible. An important missing input is whether your daughter is receiving external milk and whether she is taking any solid or semi-solid food. An infant fed by mother having rich milk supply, gets so satisfied with milk, that lactose in milk itself causes deep sleep. Few home remedies from Ayurveda are suggested: 1. Before feeding milk, feed 1 tsp of tomato juice, so as to avoid vomit occurring after drinking milk. 2. It is possible that your daughter has started getting initial teeth. Examine her gums and find out if any protrusions. If so, dissolve a piece of jaggery (lemon fruit size) in 1 cup water and squeeze juice of 1/2 lemon in it. Feed 2-3 tsp of this water to the baby 4 times in a day so that she gets initial teeth easily and does not suffer from repeated excreation of stool. There are many more remedies if teeth have started coming out. 3. Boil 250 ml of water after adding 10 gms onion in it, till onion get cooked or water volume becomes half, whichever is earlier. When water becomes luke warm, filter it. Take 1-2 tsp of this water, mix 5 drops of honey in it and feed it to the baby so that she gets sound sleep. 4. If there is gas formation in the stomach, which can be ascertained by tapping at the navel and listening to the sound it produces: dull sound indicates gas. sharp sound indicates no presence of gas: mix nagarvel leaves juice in honey, make baby lick that mixture so as to discharge the gas through normal route and cure swelling of belly (if any) and indigestion. If Nagarvel leaves are difficult to get where you reside, you can use Yeshtimadhu (Jethimadh, Jyeshtamadh) powder instead, but then digestive properties reduce. Yeshtimadhu is almost 10 times sweeter as compared to anyother food item equal in volume. It is one of the ingredient in pitta pacifier formulations. Nagarvel leaves are used in making 'Pan-beeda', popular all over India and available in diffrent varities as 'Banarasi', 'Calcutta', etc. Despite any source, all leaves are having digestive properties. Many of digestion problems can be avoided if the baby is given "Janma- Ghuti' right from the birth. One possibility that may have been overlooked is: There is a tradition that baby, after feeding, is taken with her head resting on our upright shoulder, her chest in touch with our chest, and her back is slapped lightly to release any air inside the stomach through her mouth. If any air is sucked in by baby while feeding, comes out as belching. A little milk also may come out by this slapping, but then it is a natural overflow desirable to leave some empty space in stomach for proper churning action. Lastly, avoid Zantac or similar medication. Ayurveda has rich resource of useful herbal knowledge, home remedies and all the humanity has equal rights to this knowledge, no patents.
