Join Starseed for this 4 day, 16-hour intensive course of study leading to a

Certificate in Ayurvedic Self-Care & Health Maintenance.

 

This program is intended as an introduction to Ayurveda that is both detailed as

well as of practical use to the non-health professional who wishes to take a

more responsible part in caring for his or her health. In addition, it will

serve as a basis for more advanced training for those desiring to either become

practitioners of Ayurveda or to extend their skills to care for their families.

 

This course is planned as the first of several course programs in Ayurveda that

will take students through intermedia te and advanced levels of proficiency and

which will train and certify students as Ayurvedic practitioners-consultants.

Starseed's Ayurveda Practitioner

Program is scheduled to begin operation in September 2004, and courses currently

undertaken (including this one, which is a prerequisite for all other

intermediate, advanced and practitioner-level courses offered in the program)

carry full credit applicable to the program.

 

The course's instructor, Dr. Aparna Bapat, is one of the world's premier

writers, scholars, teachers and practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine whose work

is known in the United States, the United Kingdom and India. Dr. Bapat is a

graduate of the University of Pune Faculty

of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery; is formerly Senior Lecturer at the College of

Ayurveda (London, U.K.).and is presently consultant at the Ayurveda Center, New

York City. She is the author of numerous articles on Ayurvedic medicine and

related themes and has made

mult iple television appearances (on London's Zee-TV) as health issues

consultant.

Section I (January 24, 2004)

History of Ayurveda;

basic concepts; terminology and nomenclature;

basic concepts of the Dosas

 

Section II (January 24, 2004)

Sankhya philosophy;

Mind-body-spirit connections;

Vedic cosmology;

Creation and nature of energy, matter and life processes

 

DAY 2

Section III (January 25, 2004)

Ayurvedic anatomy & physiology:

The 3 Dosas, 7 Dhatus, 3 Malas & 20 Gunas

 

Section IV (January 25, 2004)

Mind-Body-Spirit constitutional types;

Prakriti

 

DAY 3

Section V (January 31, 2004)

Prakriti & Vikruti (continued)

 

Section VI (January 31, 2004)

Origin and elaboration of the disease process (pathogenesis);

6 stages of Samprapti;

Applications of Samprapti

 

DAY 4

Section VII (February 1, 2004)

Self-analysis and preventive health care;

Daily diet & regimen;

Exercise and yoga;

Mental and emotional hygiene

 

Section VIII (February 1, 2004)

Healing properties of foods;

Diet therapy & food-combining theory;

Home remedies
