Guest guest
"Especially when he stated "sthira sukah asanam". We must understand the statement in the context of which is was written, which was addressing meditation for the most part. It certainly can be and is applied to all the other asanas, but was intended mainly to bring attention to how to properly sit for meditation so as to maximize one's ability to focus and remain present." I would like to add a few words supporting the understanding of Connie Habash. When one meditates, the cosmic energy situated in our centres (Muladhar) gets released and the aim of every Hath yogi is to pass the enrgy upward towards "Sahastrar" energising every centre on its way. The primary aim of Vajrasana, Sukhasana, Siddhasana is to see that the energy travels upwards only, and due to folded legs, blood flow as well as "Prana" energy downwards is reduced. For persons who cant fold their legs due to ailments such as Rheumatism, The yoga taught by Guru "Padmasambhava" in Nalanda two thousand years back, advises to sit with straight back on chair with both feet on ground, touch your knees and heels, so that energy flow (through blood flow, as assisted by gravity) to legs is minimised and not totally cut off. This is an easy alternative to various asanas with folded legs. It is well known that yoga should be learnt under an experienced Guru, or else problems arising out of lack of his presence should be solved by deep thinking. The yoga should not be thought simply as a way of exercises towards health of body and mind, but uniting Self with universal mind (Atma with Paramatma). Yoga postures aid the energy transfers. Most of ancient indian texts require various treatises written on them to fully understand and grasp their true meanings.
