Guest guest
Dear Naveena, Well its not a surprise that you haven't found any Ayurvedic treatments for lichen planus because there is no such condition described in Ayurvedic medicine! This is not to say that the clinical features of the condition haven't been recognized by Ayurveda, but that the condition is described differently, and will have a different name, probably a variant of the disease called "Kushta." To create an Ayurvedic treatment you need to understand the features of your condition from an Ayurvedic perspective (i.e. Vata, Pitta and Kapha), and if you haven't the skills to do this you should see an Ayurvedic practitioner. For starters however, you can look at the possibility of food allergens/sensitivities (e.g. dairy, flour), nutrient deficiencies (e.g. omega 3 fats), and the function of the liver, kidneys and immune system. From a traditional perspective most types of metabolic skin disorders are inherited from a toxic condition of the blood, which has its origin in the processes of digestion and the mobilization and elimination of wastes. Simple herbal treatments include Ayurvedic herbs like Triphala, Haridra, Neem, Bhringaraja, Amla, Katuka, Daruharidra, Guduchi, Kantakari, Nirgundi, Chandana, Manjishta and others taken internally. Western herbs that can be used with an Ayurvedic intent include Echinacea, Barberry, Yellowdock, Nettle, Red Clover and Burdock. You might also consider vitamins A, C, E and zinc to assist in healing, and vitamin D3, which appears to play an important role. Topically, herbs such as Brahmi (Centella, Gotu kola), Plantain and Chickweed might be helpful to ease the itching. A favorite remedy is to fill a clean sock with slow-cooking oatmeal and let this sit in a hot bath for 10 minutes. Then get in the bath when cool enough and use the sock to sponge your body with, squeezing out the milky juices over the affected areas. Do this once to twice daily to alleviate itching.
