Guest guest
Dear Naveena Some preliminary research in rats indicates that Neem has contraceptive properties, and I believe that some trials have been started in India, but I think we are a long way from saying that it is a reliable contraceptive in humans. Energetically Neem is a cooling herb with a bitter taste, and acts to remove accumulations of Pitta and Kapha. Although it is an excellent and safe herb, its basic nature is shodhana (purificatory) not rasayana (rejuvenative), and thus anything that enhances the catabolic capacity of the body and depletes excess can have a negative effect, since fertility is dependent upon anabolic processes. I guess the question to be asked is why are you taking it (although one could infer from your other post), as there may be alternatives that perhaps aren't so depleting if getting pregnant is the issue. Generally speaking Neem is used for specific therapeutic reasons, and isn't taken on a daily basis or long term as a preventative agent. Please bear in mind that I'm talking about the leaf or bark here, not the oil derived from the seeds, which should not be taken internally without supervision.
