Guest guest
I was told that certain yoga breahting techniques can help to decrease one's appetite and also help in increasing weight loss. Is this true? Are certain techniques better than others or is simply doing proper diaphragmatic breathing enough? Also, what is the theory behind this if the weight loss thing is true? --Diana F. Guest guest
I have been practising the 'Yoga of Breath' of the Art of Living for the last 3 yrs. I experienced a dramatic amount of weight loss after 'breathing' for a year. It was probably due to a decrease in urge to take food substances rich in 'unhealthy' fats and sugars. In my opinion, the weight loss can be explained to the control of the mind experienced due to the mind-breath connection. I hope that answers your question. Guest guest
In the dual processes of agni (digestion and metabolism) and ojas (energy and tissue sustenance), prana exists to fuel and direct these processes. Prana is obtained through food and water, but most importantly through breath. Thus breathwork facilitates the movement of prana in the body, thereby balancing and guiding the activities of agni and ojas. You could liken prana and breathwork to the vent on a wood stove that regulates the intensity of burning. Yogis that are able to control the breath are thus able to control the process of agni and ojas, and despite the fact that most of us have fairly specific dietary requirements, are able to eat very little or rely upon simple mono-diets, harnessing the power of prana to control metabolism. For most people struggling with weight I would recommend not just hatha yoga however, but some degree of hard physical labour that builds muscle, something like calisthenics, with a concomitant decrease in carbohydrate consumption...
