Guest guest
Hi, I need some advice from the experts. My wife's doctor seems to think that she might have under active thyroid. She seems to have most of the symptoms like weight gain, inspite of exercise and watching her diet and low energy etc. Has anybody expierenced this on this board and also did they find any natural cure? I am not in favor of taking a pill for rest of her life. Thanks for the advice, Vinod

Guest guest
dear Vinod, endocrinal issues like thyroid are a local manifestation of a system issue. >From an Ayurvedic perspective this is a Kapha or Vatakapaha condition. Traditional treatments involve weight bearing exercise (not aerobics), warming foods such as the meat of active animals (e.g. goat, lamb, chicken - all organic & free range btw), leafy green vegetables, certain grains such as barley, and spicy herbs such as Lasuna (Garlic) and Shunthi (Ginger). Helpful herbs include Guggulu (Myrrh), Daruharidra (Barberry) and Brahmi (Bacopa, not Centella, i.e. Gotu Kola). Cut back on dairy, flour, sugar, and fruit. From a Western perspective, the condition relates to metabolic issues, i.e. insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia, and thus omega 3s (= to 360 mg EPA/DHA), chromium (200 mcg) and magnesium (300 mg) with meals may be helpful. For more info check out http://www.wrc.net/phyto/synX.html btw if TSH and T4 levels are normal get the Doc to check T3 and antibodies for Hashimoto's... best... Guest guest
Vinod, Although I am no "expert", I'll tell you what I know. Hypothyroidism is basically underproduction of T3 and T4 hormones. These 2 are produced exclusively in the Thyroid. T3 stands for Triodiothyroxine and T4 stands for Thyroxine. I hope I spelled that right. I border on low thyroid function and I use a supplement called Thryomin. Here's what's in it. Vitamin E (Anti-oxidant) Iodine (Helps to maintain healthy T3/T4 cells) Co-enzyme Q10 (Helps conversion of food to energy) L-cysteine (Amino Acid which supports liver function) I copied most of this out a book..can you tell..can you?? Anyway, there are many supplements that help to enchance low thyroid production. I'd check with an L.Ac or a N.D. in your area. They may carry something like this. Thank you, Joshua D.
