Cartilage damage, tense and cramping calves and feet

Hello everybody!

My name is Charly. I'm not a student of Ayurveda. However I consider

it a valuable alternative to Western medicine. I have a specific

problem I hope someone in this group can help me with.

I'm a relatively ambitious (yet not prfessional)

(marathon) runner. The last 2 years I've had trouble

with tense and cramping calves and feet (despite

sufficient magnesium and calcium intake). Doctors

found out that I had a minor cartilage damage (1st -

2nd degree) .I then also had an operation on my

left knee. Later, a different doctor concluded that the cartilage

damage did not explain my tense and cramping calves and feet

completely.

(Through x-rays he found out, that my right leg is a bit (0.5 cm = a

fifth of 1 inch) shorter than the left one. To compensate for this

difference, I was prescribed a special shoe heightening device.)

Also I was prescribed glucosamine sulfate.

An American friend of mine told me, that it was better

to take a glucosamine sulfate chondroitine

combination, as the chondroitine would not only

maintain the existing cartilage but build up new

cartilage. I had friends sent me some from the U.S.

(I'm in Germany, and it's not available here).

Anyway, although glucosamine chondroitine is no drug

but a dietary supplement, I was wondering, if it was

not possible to get this stuff through nutrition

itself instead of adding it in pill form. So my

question are: DO YOU KNOW OF FOODS WHICH CONTAIN

THESE NUTRIENTS OR DO YOU KNOW OF FOODS WHICH HELP TO

BUILD UP CARTILAGE TISSUE?

ARE THERE CERTAIN HERBS OR OTHER AYURVEDIC MEANS TO TREAT THE

SYMPTOMS I HAVE DESCRIBED ABOVE?

I'D APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!

Namaste,

Charly
