Guest guest
hi jennifer, you should not practice yoga when your knee joints are not well.the main principle of doing yoga is you should feel well. as you are not feeling well it means that you better not try to practice yoga for this purpose. rahul_revale On Wed, 17 Apr 2002 clj_nct2 wrote : >Hi, I just started practicing yoga and believe it or not, my >knees >crackle so bad, it's difficult to concentrate. Guest guest
Without knowing anything else about you, I would hazard a guess that you have excess Vata in your joints. Try a daily abhyangha with some sesame oil, or depending on your constitution, sesame blended with another oil. Leave the oil on for twenty minutes, then take a warm, not hot, bath, and let the oil soak in. After you're done, if you want to shower off, fine, but don't soap the oil off. When you get out of the tub, pat yourself dry; your skin should be nice & soft, not oily. Try this for a few weeks and see how it goes. You may also want to add a little more oils or ghee to your foods & eat warm, nourishing, but not heavy (since we're in Spring) foods. I would try a lot more before giving up yoga. You also don't say what type of yoga you're doing. Generally, though, yoga will eventually help lubricate the joints; maybe you're pushing yourself a little too hard and your body is just asking for you to back off a tiny bit. Hope this helps. I've noticed my knees snap, crackling in the last year when climbing stairs, etc. but when I start my yoga exercises, it's really bad. Does anyone know what the cause might be and whether or not yoga will help or simply make it worse. Thanks, Jennifer Sponsor ayurveda
Guest guest
If your joints are extremely flexible (and possibly double jointed), go to a doctor to get checked for Marfan's Syndrome. This is especially true if you are quite tall, have scoliosis and/or have elongated digits. You may just have flexible joints (and that's a good thing!), but it doesn't hurt to get it checked out. be well, Lynn ayurveda, "rahul vasant revale" <rahul_revale@r...> wrote: > hi jennifer, > you should not practice yoga when your knee joints are not > well.the main principle of doing yoga is you should feel well. as > you are not feeling well it means that you better not try to > practice yoga for this purpose. > rahul_revale@r... > > On Wed, 17 Apr 2002 clj_nct2 wrote : > >Hi, I just started practicing yoga and believe it or not, my > >knees > >crackle so bad, it's difficult to concentrate. Guest guest
Hi Jennifer Yoga is not just a form of exercise. It is the way by which all the three doshas are alliviated. Yogic postures channelise vata in such a fashion that it helps to alleviate pitta and kapha. Thus the disease gets cured. Another fact about yogic postures is that, these are never to be done in discomfort and stressfully.Perfection in any posture is achieved only with the practise. If they are not done smoothly, without exertion, they can cause vata vitiation. And if you are doing in improper manner then there may be some problems. Lack of unctuousness in your diet also can cause vata vitiation and thus affecting your joints. I am not aware about your age, occupation and history about the other illness, but I think Oil massage and fomentation would be the remedy to get some releif. OR you can use some vata alleviating herbs for local application. If you have any querries, feel free to ask. Guest guest
Hi there, That's a very sound advice. But why do you say that Yoga alleviates Pitta and Kapha only ? Depending on the aggressiveness of the exercise, it could alleviate kapha, but the main goal of yogic meditation is building up of kapha and alleviating vata. The regularity of slow yogic exercises, depending on the exercise, could alleviate / normalize all 3 doshas. Durgesh "Vd. Guest guest
Avoid foods that cause irritate Vata. Bread (yeast) and all fermented foods. The list rather lengthy. There are several articles that will help you understand online at www.ayurvedacollege.com www.vedanet.com
