Guest guest
Hi! I wanted to know if there is a cure for a bone marrow disorder in Ayurveda. The disorder is called "Aplastic Anemia". A condition where the bone marrow stops producing all cells needed in the blood. Allopathy and Homeo did not help at all. Could anybody help me with this? Regards, Kashyap

The most common cause of such anemias are related to exposure to certain industrial chemicals (e.g. benzene, inorganic arsenic), radiation, or drugs (e.g. chemotherapy, antibiotics, NSAIDs, anticonvulsants). Since there is no such thing in Ayurveda as "aplastic anemia," we would have to know the specific signs and symptoms of the patient. In Ayurveda there are five types of pandu: vata, pitta, kapha, sannipata and midbhakshana. Probably the aplastic form relates more to vata, but once again, this determination can only be made with a clinical assessment. Look for accessory symptoms that suggest one or more of the doshas, for example: dryness and fatigue = vata, paleness, coldness and catarrh = kapha, inflammation and bleeding = pitta, etc. Holistic treatments including Ayurveda would probably focus around building up the blood, beginning with good digestion and proper elimination, and the specific use of herbs and nutritional supplements. For example, blood-building herbs are indicated, including Indian herbs such as Ashwagandha, Amalaki, or Shilajitu, Chinese herbs such as Dang gui, Rehmannia, and Lycium berry, and Western herbs such as Yellowdock, Red Raspberrry leaf and Nettle. Specific ayurvedic remedies include bhallataka rasayana, dadimadi churna and triphala guggulu. A useful Chinese formula is Shih Chuan Da Bu Wan. We also might direct our attention to the liver, and use herbs to support it, including Haridra, Bhringaraja or Barberry. Important nutritional supplements would include supplemental iron with vitamin C, and vitamin B complex (with B12). Important foods inlcude meat/bone stews/broths, yams, figs, raisins, and leafy green vegetables. best... todd caldecott
Guest guest
Hi todd! Appreciate your response very much. I do agree that Ayurveda doesnt have something called "Aplastic Anemia" as such. Actually the only option in allopathy was a highly toxic treatment called ALG that is certain to lead to MAJOR side effects. Hence wanted to try Ayurveda. Any idea as to the time period taken for Ayurveda to actually show effects?? (ALG takes 3 to 6 months atleast to show effects) I know it depends on situation at hand... but any rough idea would give us an input as to try out the next course. Am confused coz, Ayurved doctors dont speak highly of Allopathy and vise versa... and i am no medicine man, so in a state of utter confusion...
