HONEY, MY DEAR HONEY!!!

We’re talking about honey. And assuming most of you are picturing your

sweethearts right now let me bring you back into perspective. I’m talking about

the ever-sweet, golden-brown nectar called honey. A food that you may or may not

love. But trust me, shouldn’t avoid.

Why? Because honey happens to be one of those rare wholesome foods that provides

classic nutritional balance if consumed regularly. Not to forget it’s most

miraculously quick healing powers. And that you could pair it with almost

anything. And also ……well, the list could go on, so I think I’ll slow down a

bit.

We’ll talk abut our earliest experience with honey. It was probably the first 12

hours of after delivery, if the mother doesn’t have enough milk for a feed,

honey is the only other perfect substitute!

Honey can provide instant energy. And that’s probably because of its ability

to get absorbed at the throat level itself , All other tonics , be they

natural or synthetic , do not begin to show the desired effects until they are

properly digested , around 30 minutes after consumption . On the other hand, the

blood absorbs honey as soon as it reaches the throat, making it parts of the

body with in 5 minutes of swallowing. Well, whenever I‘ve been out in the sun,

all I do is slosh down a glass of honey-water: so take it from me-honey is no

doubt the fastest natural energizers available!

Heard the one about the old Egyptian mummy buried in one of the pyramids? When

the Europeans unearthed his belongings buried beside him, they also found an

earthen jar full of honey-sweet, nutritious, three thousand years old, but

still edible! And this is actually true. The most striking property of honey is

its almost everlasting life. In fact, once preserved, its quality improves with

the passage of time.

Honey is known as one of the five essential nectars available on earth , the

others being milk, ghee, cured and tulsi.

Few tonics are adaptable as pure, genuine honey. It can be mixed with a variety

of medicines, fruits, and fluids – in the right proportions of course- without

turning any of them harmful. Gifted with nerve-strengthening properties, honey

can be used with lukewarm water to shed those extra kilos and build sturdy

muscles. Whether applied externally or consumed internally, every part of your

body can benefit in some way from this power-packed nectar.

And to think that Winnie-the-pooh’s favorite dish is made from pollen grain

mixed with bee’s saliva! Thanks to these bees, we can avail of effective

remedies for hundreds of ailments – both common and uncommon. For instance,

arthritis patients can take a regular intake of about 5 grams of honey along

with meals. Externally rubbing pure honey over the affected areas and then

covering it with a bandage helps to ease the pain.

A common cold calls for two spoons of ginger juice with honey in a day. And this

is for every young party animal out there – just a few glasses of honey mixed

with ice-cold water are the perfect cure for hangover!
