Swami's Quotations on Dharma (my mother's case)

Dear Mari-Elise, Sai family,

i feel i should share with you; my parents had an

interview with swami (in the 1970s) in which swami

mentioned in his sweet words that my mother's "family

was not good", he said, "brothers and sisters not

good"; to this my mother replied, "swami please bless

them"

but what swami said is true; the family does not have

good relationship and there was a lot of problems; for

example, my uncle was a drug addict, my first aunt ran

away from home and verbal/physical abuse from my

grandmother and grandftaher, also the beatings my

uncle gave to his younger brothers and sisters (my

mother included).

so do we break off contact or not?

the word "break off contact", i feel, is not a

sweet-sounding word but the truth is you need to stay

away from them (so actually it means the same thing).

my mother does not keep in contact with her brothers

and sisters;

despite the fact that my youngest aunty hurt her very

badly my mother still welcomes her (and her family)

back to our home every chinese new year. a few other

aunties do not communicate with us (grandma had 10

children). but my mother will still welcome ANY

relative to comes to the house; but she does not visit

them or call them or spend time chatting etc.

i feel it is better for my mother this way; she has

kept her distance and everything seems OK.

the Chinese new year reunion once a year (to me,

truthfully) feels superficial but this is my

mother---she keeps the tradition of Open house

welcoming people, this is her kind heart that is full

of love.

sometimes you need to be by yourself, or with your own

family

then the wholepicture will turn out clearly, whether

it was meant to be or not.

love

yvonne
