and her king brother are playing tricks with Pralhad, they stared small fires in

their houses and prayed to Lord Agni individually, that the fire should not

destroy the good (Pralhad) but instead it should kill the evil Holika. We

further know the story that Holika dies. The good win over the evil and hence

the people of the city celebrated the win of Pralhad. Gradually, the individual

worship of fire took a social look and a big fire was worshipped by all, which

we now know as Holi. The people also started celebrating by throwing different

colours and even mud and water (Dhuleti). They forgot that they were big or

small, learned or illiterate, rich or poor but started celebrating and this

took a social form in the festival of Holi.

0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"> Pralhad united all the people and made them active

for good work. He was able to get people who were subdued by evil power to

revolt against the evil king and his father Hiranakshapu,(Nar maa Sinh i.e.

Narsinh) and ultimately he was killed by the power.Holi teaches us that the

good should unite and fight the evil. We should throw all the evil thoughts

and bad deeds in the fire and burn it. Also we must be socially united to face

the evils and destroy

them. In short, Holi is a festival of colours to make one’s life colorful;

get socially united and destroy the evil by the good, and understand the power

of self-discipline. Dr. Saurabh Parikh.
