100 things you can practice in - 2006 - Happy New Year

No. 1 A, B, C of life - Accept Benign Company A, B, C of life - Always Be Calm

A, B, C of life - Always Be Carefree A, B, C of life - Always Be Charitable A,

B, C of life - Always Be Cheerful A, B, C of life - Always Be Considerate A, B,

C of life - Always Be Cooperative A, B, C of life - Always Be Courteous No. 2

A, B, C of life – Always Be Careful No. 3 A, B, C of life - Avoid Bad Company

No. 4 A beautiful tree with rich foliage can be destroyed by a pest operating

at its roots. Envy is such a pest. It converts even a happy, affluent person

into a miserable being consumed by envy. No. 5 A formidable list can be made

of the inadequacies and defects of man, but the basic defect is greed;

‘uncontrolled desire’, always clamouring for more, as a result of the ceaseless

prompting of the senses. No. 6 A lazy person is absolutely useless to the world

No. 7 A man’s well-being depends upon his degree of contentment No. 8 A person

is born to learn how not to be born again No. 9 A person who does not believe

in himself, will not believe in God. A person who has faith in himself, will

have faith in God. No. 10 A pure thought from a pure heart is better than a

mantra No. 11 A society without values will cease to be human No. 12 A sound

mind ensures a sound body; a sound body ensures a sound mind No. 13 A teacher

who instructs pupils with his eye fixed on his salary, and a pupil who learns

with his eye fixed on a job are born missing their vocation. No. 14 A true man

of learning is one who sees different beings with an equal eye. No. 15 A

virtuous character is the lamp, which illumines the path to peace and joy No.

16 About something unknown, much can be said No. 17 Above all, listen to the

voice of God within. As soon as one contemplates a wrong act, that voice warns,

protests and advises giving up. No. 18 Acquire love through love. Only through

love can unity in diversity be experienced. No. 19 All actions have

appropriate consequences. Every act results in its own reward. Good acts yield

good results. No. 20 All are equal in birth and in death. Differences arise

only during the interval. The Emperor and the beggar are both born naked; they

sleep equally silently; they bow out without even leaving their new address.

Then how can their reality be different? There can be no doubt on this score.

All are basically the same. No. 21 All are one - be alike to everyone No. 22

All education, all mastery of the scriptures, and all kinds of worship will be

of no avail if the heart is not filled with qualities like love, compassion and

forbearance No. 23 All life is one - all men are of one lineage No. 24 All men

are Divine as Myself; the only difference is that they are yet unaware of their

divinity. No. 25 All religions teach one basic discipline – the removal of

the blemish of egoism from the mind, of running after little joys. Every

religion teaches man to fill his beings with the glory of God, and evict the

pettiness of conceit. It trains him in methods of detachment and

discrimination, so that he may aim high and attain liberation. No. 26 All

religions teach the same good ideals No. 27 All that concern the God is

delight No. 28 All the twenty-four hours are spent in attending to the care of

the body; the prevention of disease, the promotion of health, the development of

muscle, etc. No care is spent on the God resident in this physical tabernacle,

who has to be recognised and revered. No. 29 All work is God’s. He helps, He

executes, He enjoys, He is pleased, He reaps, He sowed No. 30 All you have

to consider is, whether a happy life is important or is Liberation from the

circle of life and death more important. Happy living is only for a short

duration; the joy of liberation is eternal and unshakable. No. 31 All your

sins are forgiven the moment you get My darshan. (direct seeing of a holy

person) I shall carry all your burdens No. 32 Always try to develop feelings

which are full of joy No. 33 Anger can ruin the very life of man No. 34 Anger

is the harvest of the tantalising mind No. 35 Anger is the worst exhibition of

the ego No. 36 Anger is usually compared with fire, which literally means,

‘not enough’. It always relishes more and more fuel to feed its limitless

hunger. No. 37 As close as you are to God, so close is God to you No. 38 As

long as the sugar is on the tongue, you feel the sweetness in the taste.

Similarly, so long as the heart has devotion, peace and love, you feel

happiness. No. 39 As the actions are, so the result will be No. 40 As the

mother, so the progress of the nation; as the mother, so the sweetness of the

culture No. 41 Ask yourself this question: Is there a state called happiness?

Can it be reached by accumulating things? No! Happiness is only an interval

between two miseries; misery is a gap between two moments of happiness. You

must equate both happiness and misery and transcend both, teaching the mind to

dive deeper into the realms of bliss. No. 42 As worldly thoughts diminish,

thoughts of God increase No. 43 Aspire to live in peace - not plenty No. 44

At the end of life, one should bring to the consciousness the great thoughts

one has attained in life, the high feelings one entertained No. 45 At the

gates of liberation, there are three sentinels, who will admit you inside only

if you satisfy them of the validity of your credentials. They are contentment,

peace and inquiry No. 46 At the present time when we see confusion, fear and

anxiety all over the world, each must contribute his share of cool, calm love

to suppress the anger and fury. No governmental authority can suppress it as

effectively and as quickly as you can by love and brotherliness Nr. 47 Avoid

in your behaviour, your actions and your speech all trace of the desire to pain

others, to insult others, or to cause loss or misery to others No. 48 Awake,

arise and stop not till the goal is reached No. 49 Awareness if life No. 50

Bad thoughts will lead to bad actions and grievous results No. 51 Be a master

- not a slave No. 52 Be assured that the Lord has come to save the world from

calamity. Your duty is to keep calm, and pray for the happiness and prosperity

of all. You cannot be happy when the rest of mankind is unhappy. No. 53 Be

born in love, die in love, live in love, that is to say emerge from God and

merge in God. Be a wave in the ocean of love No. 54 Be eager and earnest to

know more and more about the art of joyful living No. 55 Be good, be joyful,

be bold, be honest, be temperate, be patient! No. 56 Be good. See good. Do

good. This is the way to God. No. 57 Be in the world, but do not let the

world be in you No. 58 Be like a bee drinking nectar of flowers No. 59 Be

loving, begin to perceive your inner voice and follow it No. 60 Be moderate

in talk, in sleep and in food No. 61 Be patient and persevering; final success

will be yours No. 62 Be prepared to have gladly any obstacle in the path No.

63 Be ready to renounce all that is harmful No. 64 Be rich in sovereign

character. What exactly is character? Steady adherence to truth, renunciation,

genuine love and selfless service, these are the essential components of

character. Follow the dictates of your conscience. You can never go wrong. No.

65 Be right Do right No. 66 Be righteous; avoid all prejudices against others

on the basis of caste, creed, colour, mode of worship, status or degree of

affluence. Do not look down upon any one; look upon all as Divine as you really

are. No. 67 Be simple and sincere No. 68 Bear everything; do nothing Hear

everything; say nothing Give everything; take nothing Serve everyone; be

nothing No. 69 Becoming one with God is the real meaning of surrender No. 70

Before pointing to the faults of others, examine yourselves and assure

yourselves that you are free from faults. That alone gives you the right; but

the wonder is that you discover faults in others only when you have faults in

you. Once you rid yourselves of faults, all are pure and good. No. 71 Before

you speak, consider: - is it necessary - is it true - is it kind - will it hurt

anyone - will it improve the silence No. 72 Being a good example is the best

form of service No. 73 Believe in yourself, first. Then believe in the Lord.

When you have faith in these two, neither the good nor bad will affect you. No.

74 Believe that all hearts are motivated by the one and only God; that all

faiths glorify the one and the only God; that all names, in all languages, and

all forms men can conceive, denote the One and only God. No. 75 Blood has to

circulate from head to foot; Love has to circulate from high to low No. 76

Bodies come and go, but the God is eternal No. 77 Body is like a flashlight,

eye is like the bulb, mind is the battery cell, intelligence is the switch.

Only when the four work together do you get the light! No. 78 Body is like a

water bubble Mind is like a mad monkey Don’t follow the body Don’t follow the

mind Follow the conscience No. 79 Body is the temple of God No. 80 Body, mind

and intellect are all just instruments or agents No. 81 Bring Me the depths of

your minds, no matter how grotesque, no matter how ravaged by doubts or

disappointments. I will not reject you. I am your Mother No. 82 By chanting

the Lord’s Name, desires can be reduced while legitimate wishes get fulfilled

No. 83 By developing good thoughts, you can ward off bad thoughts No. 84 By

eating flesh one develops violent tendencies and animal diseases No. 85 By

means of love, one can approach God and stay in His presence, for God is love

and when one lives in love, he is living in God No. 86 By the acts in this

life, man decides on his next birth, where and how it will be. Even before

leaving this world, the new place is ready for him and his foreparts are

already there. No. 87 Call Me by any name and I will respond. Picture Me in

any form and I will present Myself before you No. 88 Call upon God. He will

help you. He will respond and he Himself will be your guru. He will guide you.

He will always be at your side. Think God, see God, hear God, eat God, drink

God, love God. That is the easy path, the royal road to your goal of breaking

ignorance and the realisation of your true nature, which is one with God. No.

89 Change your vision and the World will appear accordingly. Let the eye be

charged with the Divine, it will see all as God. It is foolish to try to shape

the World; shape yourself as the embodiment of peace, love and reverence. Then

you will see all as love, compassion and humility. No. 90 Character is the

most precious gift of education No. 91 Character makes life immortal No. 92

Children are happy since they have not been involved in such adult activities

as sense-pleasure-seeking. They scatter joy and enthusiasm, innocence and

confidence. No. 93 Children are lamps which can illumine the path of the

nation No. 94 Children must grow up in the atmosphere of reverence, devotion,

mutual service and cooperation No. 95 Close yours eyes to the faults of others

- but keep them open to discover your own No. 96 Come to Me, eager to learn, to

see yourself in Me and I shall certainly welcome you and show you the way. You

will indeed be blessed. No. 97 Compassion is all-important and it is because

of the absence of compassion that the world today is afflicted with so many

troubles. No. 98 Condemn the wrong and extol the right as soon as you notice

either in your children; that will settle them on the straight path No. 99

Consider the word ‘Nara’, which denotes ‘man’. Of these two syllables ‘ra’

means decline, decay, destruction and death. ‘Na’ means ‘without’. Man or Nara

has no decay, he is immortal as God, for he is God. No. 100 Content with what

one has, refusing to be worried by the absence of things which one has not got
