Guest guest Report post Posted September 30, 2004 Here's a query I received that I'm referring to Achintya-ites for commenting on. Why is it so sinful to receive salt in the hand? This is considered equivalent to eating beef. So that means one would go to hell for it. That is totally incomprehensible to me. In fact, such negative phala-srutis are a big source of doubt for devotees. Could you please shed some light on this?

I had never heard of it. I know that my wife will never put salt directly into my hand or in my prasaadam, but I think that is more of a cultural thing.
