We are extremely happy to receive the recollections on the Divine discourses made by our Beloved Bhagawan during the holy Sivarathri celebrations on 24th Feb 1971 and 5th March 1972 communicated by you through email. Bhagawan€ ’²s Divine discourse delivered on 24th Feb 1971 is full of spiritual eminence. The following are the important points stressed by our Bhagawan. The valuable persuader us to investigate the function of the senses and the mind. The senses reflect the Atman residing within our mind. The inner instruments of knowledge enshrined in man pave the way to acquire the highest wisdom. But these inner instruments are after misused in ignorance. This leads to confusion in man€ ’²s life and ultimately ruins the progress of a man in the life. Atman is encased in temporary sheaths in a ramshackle dwelling house hearing the name of Atman. Atman remains unaffected by anything which happens to the protective sheath. Bhagawan says that Prahaladha is good example for showing that atman remains unaffected even if tortures are inflicted over the physical body. Prahaladha remained calm and unruffled to whatever severe torture inflicted to him. Prahaladha surrendered His inner consciousness and the outer consciousness at the Feet of lord Naraynana and realized the Divine truth of atman. Arjuna realized the Divine truth of Atman rather belatedly through lord Krishna€ ’²s revelation. Arjuna has forgotten the formula taught by lord Krishna for His success in KURUKSHETRA war. When he wanted to fight the certain barbarous acts inflicted upon the yadhava community the kith and kin of lord Krishna at Hasthinaapura. He could not keep His promise to lord Krishna that the women folk will be safeguarded by him. Arjuna was remaining as a silent spectator when the barbaric people kidnapped the women due to loss of his miraculous power boned by lord Krishna. It was at this juncture Arjuna realized the Divine truth that the lord Krishna was his very life his might His archery and his heroism. So the shame of defeat made Arjuna to realize the truth of Atman. Bhagawan contains us about the mind. The mind is capable of playing so many tricks. An important trick is the fostering the ego in the mind. Man should be always alert speeding to the warnings issued by the Divine to dissuade us from then our life will be happy and prosperous. Bhagawan commons us to engage ourselves in Bhajans. Bhagawan explain that Bhajans is a process to train our minds into eternal values. Mind should be taught to reveal the glory and majesty of the lord. The mind should be weaned away from the seeking petty pleasures. This can be achieved through Bhajans Pooja or vratha. Bhajans induces us to realize the truth and to glimpse the beauty which is the omnipotent God. Bhajans leads us to taste the bliss of the lord. This bliss is the Atman. So Bhagawan wishes to engage our selves in singing Bhajans spelling out the Naamas of the lord to realize our inversely which tales us nearer to almighty. It is but proper to quote at this moment what Bhagawan once said about Naama Sankeerthan. Bhagawan has said that Naama Sankeerthanas are the only penance available to cure the evils wickedness and turmoil€ ’²s which are ride and rampant in this kali age. Hence singing the Naamas of the /lord and hearing such singings has to be practiced by us. In His discourse during the Sivarathri on 5th March 1973 Bhagawan has spoken about the significance of Maha Sivarathri celebrations His as follows. Sivarathri is observed every month this Sivarathri falls on the fourteenth night after the full moon and one night preceding the new moon this Sivarathri when falls in the month of Maya that is the fourteenth nigh after new moon is marked as Maha Sivarathri. This Maha Sivarathri is sacred because of a sacred event. On this Maha Sivarathri day lord Shiva takes the Linga form benefiting the devotees. This linga form of Shiva has to be adored with reverence for the acquisition of Janna of wisdom. Hence we have to pray to lord Shiva for enlightenment through wisdom. Hence Bhagawan asks us not to treat this day as lightly. The disciplined rituals prescribed by Rishis for observing this Maha Sivarathri have to be strictly followed. These rituals are viratha and non stop singing the Naamas of the lord during the night. Bhagawan cautions that this is not a day for revelry rivalry or playing function. Our mind ought to be focused fully on the Atma linga during the day and night. The Atma linga emanates from Shiva who is Jyothi linga the symbol of light spreading wisdom. Bhagawan says that every one of us should have conviction that lord Shiva is everyone if us. Fence is necessary to protect the growing corps. But when no crop is growing spending time and money to build up a fence is sheer water. An arrange fruit is covered with an outer skin to protect the juicy pulp inside. But this outer skin will not be tasty. Like this outer ritual is prescribed to shelter the inner message from being tampered with. Sivarathri has many outer ceremonial observance a care of inner significance. The human nature prefers the lazier path of outer formality to the path of inner discipline and inference. Visiting Shiva temples worshipping the Shiva through prints pouring water over Shiva lingam observance of fasting keeping vigil the entire night are the rituals prescribed to observe Maha Sivarathri day. The observance of Vratha on certain days purifies the mind of the observe in calculating in the mind good thoughts and devotion to God. Ishwara is the other name Shiva. This means that Shiva causes SAM by His Grace SAM means Aanantha of the highest degree. Siva is regarded as the embodiment of Aanantha. Hence Shiva performed thanda dance enjoyed by Him using the cosmas setting apart just one day an any the 365 days in a year to worship this universal omnipresent Shiva is very essential. This ay is marked as Maha Sivarathri. That is one who vanquishes death. Siva plays the role of Kaamaarni. That is the destroyers of KAMA the desire. One who destroys desire can conquer death. Hence Shiva plays the dual role of protection from death and destruction of desires of desire. Iswara is symbolized through Linga form during Sivarathri lingam is the form in which all forms merge into one. Shiva means graciousness auspiciousness. He is ever auspiciousness. He is ever auspicious that is sarva mangalam. This is why the epithet which connotes auspiciousness and graciousness is not added before Shiva Sankara Iswara since they are the very embodiment of those factors. Shiva is called the teacher of teachers he is adored as lord Dakshinamoorthy. Hence Maha Sivarathri is a marked for the exclusive and sincere worship of great Shiva. Bhagawan has explained the significance of Sivarathri and the divinity of Shiva in simple language which captivates our minds.
