PRAMUKH SWAMI MAHARAJ

Our own happiness lies in the happiness of others; Our advancement lies in the

advancement of others; Our good lies in the good of others.

If you have good character, everyone will come to have love for you and your

faith in God and righteousness will be consolidated. You will experience

happiness in proportion to the degree of your obedience to God’s will;

otherwise, you will have no peace even in the company of God or a God-like

saint.

******

 

Compared to monetary abundance earned by dishonest means, plain bread honestly

earned is more gratifying.

******

With steadfast character, one’s studies too are bound to improve. With our life

lived within the bounds of divine law, our efforts will surely attract God’s

help.

******

The tendency to look at each other’s faults should be abandoned; we should look

at each other’s good qualities.

******

Our stomachs should not be garbage cans in which everything is thoughtlessly

dumped. Eat wisely and judiciously.

******

Wish everybody well and you will fare well. Wish them ill and you will come to grief.

******

If elders in the family behave well, children too will follow suit. Practice is the best preacher.

******

Do not try to look fashionable with clothes and long hair. Rather, turn efforts

to looking good in the eyes of God.

******

Only through adversity, one can become a well-moulded personality; if a potter

kneads the clay well, the pot takes good shape.

Just as parents look lovingly upon obedient children, God and His holy saint

cast their loving eye on those who do their will.

******

It is in youth that you can worship God; you can do nothing in old age.

******

Riches do not make a man cultured. He is truly cultured when his life is filled with righteousness.

******

In order to be freed from the bondage of Maya (delusion) you have to accept the bondage of God.

******

If someone went looking for a job with beautiful clothes and well-groomed hair

as his qualifications, would he get one? There, they demand you be worthy and

experienced. Likewise, it is no good moving around superficially – looking

good, etc. only righteousness makes your life truly respectable.

******

Bread earned by the sweat of your brow will bring true peace. Whatever is earned

through honest work will stay and everything else will go the same way it has

come.

******

If you want to make your heart the seat of God, make your life pure. Religion makes your life pure.

******

It is no use preaching what you do not practice. Teachers and professors today

forbid smoking, telling students about its harmfulness; yet they smoke

themselves as soon as they are outside the classroom!What use will their

preaching be? So long as knowledge is merely verbal, it will not prove

profitable in our lives.

******

If you indulge in addiction, you will be unhappy and you will make your family,

society and the nation unhappy. That is why we forbid addictions.

He is a demon who wickedly wishes to misappropriate others’ belongings. He who

gives is a God. Do good to everybody and you will surely fare well.

******

So long as our life has not become pure and pious, we shall never get good

thoughts, without which how are we to go near God?

******

Money, power and affluence will bring you no such joy as you will get from

seeing and hearing the good things of people. This vision comes only from close

communion with a true saint.

******

With soap, you can clean your body; but what about deceit and impurity in the

mind? Satsang is the soap to cleanse our minds.

******

Atheism as well as bad company has done nobody any good – be it a village, a

family, a society or a nation; godlessness makes for no progress and

development. When godlessness comes, money goes.

 

******

People put money in banks, trusting that it will bring interest, but they cannot

trust God! With faith and trust, we could never part with God.

******

Commune with such a person as would increase your love for the spiritually

great; promote reverence for Satsang; make sure you realize the true greatness

of God and religion.

******

The incense stick burns itself and gives fragrance. Man’s life must be one of
