A TEAR DROP – MAKES ALL

“He was melted inside, his eyes were full of tears, his throat was choked and

all his evil and crooked thoughts vanished.” –Sri Sai Satcharitra, Ch. XLIX.

A holy man of God, Saint Dharmidas, had a brother who was rich in the wealth of

the world. On his death, his son inherited a vast fortune which he began to

spend in vain pleasures. He fell into bad company and began to waste his life

and his fortune.

One day, Saint Dharmidas came to visit his nephew. Lost to all sense of

propriety, the nephew indulged in his sinful excesses, even while his saintly

uncle was a guest under his roof. The saint’s heart was deeply grieved by what

he saw.

The next morning, the saint took leave of his nephew. Not a word of reproach did

the saint utter, though his heart was full of anguish.

As he put on his footwear, his nephew came forward and said, “Dear uncle! Let me tie your laces.”

As he bowed at his uncle’s feet to tie the laces, a tear-drop fell from the

saint’s eyes. It fell on the nephew’s forehead. What power lay in that single

tear drop! The nephew was transformed.

He fell at his uncle’s feet and shed tears of true repentance. He pleaded with

the saint to pour his grace and compassion upon him and to accept his as a

devotee of his lotus feet. By the grace of his uncle, he became a new person.
