GET RID OF JOY KILLERS

 

Baba sais, “If there be even a little trace of greed in mind, all the Sadhanas

(spiritual endeavors) are of no avail” in Sri Sai Satcharitra, Ch. XVI, XVII.

 

A man with a cavity in one of his teeth came to a dentist. As the dentist was

cleaning the cavity, the end of his drill broke off. Carefully, the dentist

removed every little piece of metal from the patient’s mouth, until he was sure

that there was nothing left to remove.

 

About three years later, the man began to complain of a pain in his neck. The

doctors carried out a thorough check-up but found nothing wrong.

 

About six years later, he developed a severe pain in the shoulder. Once again,

the doctors were consulted, but could not arrive at a diagnosis.

 

About twelve years later, the man complained of unbearable pain in his jaw. This

time, X-ray revealed a small foreign substance lodged in his mouth – a tiny

fragment of the dentist’s drill that had lodged in his teeth, causing him pain

for twelve long years!

 

A man may have some fear, hatred, jealousy, envy or resentment lurking somewhere

in his consciousness – like the tiny piece of the dentist’s drill. If he does

not find it out and eliminate it, howsoever tiny it be, he cannot lead a

painless life.
