SAI PHILOSOPHY: SAI PHILOSOPHY FROM THE DIARY OF SAI.BA.NI.SA. These messages are the outcome and essence of the dream sequences of Saibanisa as given by Lord Sainath, which reflect the Sai Philosophy and his high thinking. They carry a sense of deep meaning and are generally thought provoking, enough to set one's thinking process. Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY. 116) 15th July 1993: Cling to the feet of your "GURU" with out leaving them. Only then there is a possibility of enlightenment. 117) 15th July 1993: Discharging of your responsibilities does not entitle you to stop earning money. So long as the health permits, one has to earn money till he completes his karmic obligations also. 118) 16th July, 1993: Either the envy that your brother is earning more or the ego that you are dining with a person of lesser status are a part of your thinking process, you cannot earn love, affection and goodwill of others. 119) 17th July 1993: Water dilutes milk, whereas devotion added to "SAI" makes the bond stronger. The divine light of "SAI" will manifold wisdom. 120) 19th July 1993: Do not borrow from friends and relatives. The debts may turn out as last nails in your coffin. --- -------------------- 5. SAI IN LETTERS: Madhusudhan Nori, Hyderabad, India nomavi SAI IN LETTERS (Saibanisa's letters to his Son http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/ocean_of_mercy/sai3.jpg Translated from the Telugu original into English by Sri Sai Devotee Madhusudan Nori. Secunderabad - 28 February 2000. I request the readers to read first Sri Sai Satcharitra in English by Late Sri Nagesh Vasudev Gunaji, before reading these letters. http://www.geocities.com/seenukv/day-01-thu.htm OM SAI Hyderabad 15.02.92 Letter – 41 (Chapters – 43 and 44) Dear Chakrapani, Sri Hemadri Pant wrote about Sri Sai attaining Mahasamadhi (soul leaving his mortal coil or body) in detail in Chapters 42, 43 and 44. That's why I am also writing about these 3 chapters in 2 letters. In my last letter I had written about the incident wherein by Sri Sai's grace my uncle Sri Upadhyayula Pereswara Somayajulu garu, who inspite of being on his death bed, was able to be present during Gruhapravesham of his new house and was taken into that house. Sri Sai temporarily took away the death warrant (issued by fate) so that the auspicious Gruhapravesham ceremony could be held without any hindrance. If Sri Sai had not temporarily put away my uncle's moment of death, my uncle would have passed away with a longing for entering the house built by him. He would then have to be born again for fulfillment of his wish to enter that house. Sri Sai knew the situation and hence ensured that my uncle's ardent wish was fulfilled, thus paved the way for his passing away peacefully. Now I will write about these aspects. My uncle Sri Somayujulu garu, while lying on a stretcher, was full of enthusiasm on that day 29 Jan 92, he called by name each relative present on that occasion, talked to them and requested them to have lunch before they return to their homes. He called his sister and asked her to sing a devotional song very dear to him "Neevindedi Konda paina Nenundedi Nela paina (You reside on a hill I reside on earth)" and bowed to Sri Venkateswara Swami (Lord Venkateswara who resides on seven hills). All relatives and guests finished having their lunch that afternoon and my uncle bade goodbye to them by asking them to return to their homes. He called me to his side and asked me to recite the afternoon Harathi of Sri Sai. I was feeling sad at my uncle's condition, still as told I recited and performed the afternoon Harathi to Sri Sai. He called me with love, took off his spectacles and put them on my face as a memento. He called his wife and my aunt and told her that after he passed away she should remove the ring from his finger and give the same to me. I was not able to see his suffering and prayed to God to relieve my uncle from his misery. I asked God for a sign to indicate whether HE has heard my plea or not, closed my eyes and opened Sri Sai Satcharithra randomly. It opened on a page in Chapter 26 with Sri Sai's message – "You cannot escape the consequences of good and bad actions in your last birth. If you have not fully washed away your past sins by undergoing suffering and commit suicide for escaping such suffering, it is not going to help you. You will have to be born again to undergo the balance of the suffering. Why do you not accept the suffering as long as it lasts, caused by past sins of yours, before dying? Why not wipe away the sins of past lives? Let the consequences of past sins are wiped away permanently." I understood this message, but I was not able to witness my uncle's suffering and I returned to my home bathed and gave the night Harathi to Sri Sai. At that time I saw a very grotesque black insect, with wings having an impression of human skull. This indicated that Sri Sai is going to grant liberation to Sri Somayajulu garu on Ekadashi day (an auspicious 11th day of moon in a 15 day cycle), such a conviction occurred in my mind. I could not sleep well that night. I woke up on 30 Jan 92 Thursday, bathed, did the daily devotional reading and prayed for a message from Sri Sai. He gave the message from Chapter 27 " Chant the name Raja Ram, if you do so you will attain your life's aim and your mind will be at peace." Immediately thereafter I went to my uncle Sri Somayajulu garu's place, I was told that his condition deteriorated during the night and he was admitted in Gandhi hospital. I hastened to Gandhi hospital. He was fighting a war with his death. He was devoid of any energy and was speaking very faintly. I understood the situation, I asked for a few Tulasi (Basil) leaves and a glass of water. I sat near his head and recited the noon Harathi of Sri Sai. I offered sugar to Sri Sai and put that consecrated sugar in my uncle's mouth. He sucked the dissolved sugar in his mouth. Last moments of his life commenced from that time. I was uttering Raja Ram and Sai Ram in his ears and he was slowly repeating these names. Doctors put him on oxygen by 1 PM. The monitor near his head was indicating that his pulse rate at that time was180 per minute. Doctors were making all efforts to save his life. Then giving up hope they stepped aside. I continued to chant Raja Ram and Sai ram in his ears and he was repeating Ram with extreme difficulty. I poured Tulasi water in his mouth at 1:15 PM, he took one gulp, and I poured again Tulasi water in his mouth for the second time but this time the water flowed out of his mouth. He breathed his last breath at 1:20 PM and I could hear ah! sound loudly at that time. I understood that he passed away and is no longer amongst us. I could not with hold my sorrow and cried loudly. Doctors came and told me that I should not cry loudly in the ward. What do they know the agony and suffering in my mind? My Sai has left me and gone away. All relatives came and asked me about the time of my uncle's passing away. I told them that he passed away at 1:20 PM on 30 Jan 92 Thursday. One of the relatives commented " Somayajulu passed away on Ekadashi day just as Bhismacharya, how lucky was he?" Yes he started his fight with death on Dasami day, left the physical body on Ekadashi and merged with Sri Sai. I consider this as his spiritual victory. In those days, Sri Sai attained Mahasamadhi on 15 October 1918 at 2:30 PM after completion of noon Harathi. Sri Sai took his last sip of Tulasi water from Nanasaheb Nimonkar on a Dasami / Ekadashi day. Sai in my life, my uncle Sri Somayajulu garu took his last sip of Tulasi water from my hands on Ekadashi day. Sri Sai answered my prayers, kept his word and fulfilled my wish for experiencing the emotions felt by HIS devotees at the time of HIS Mahasamadhi in this way at the time of passing away of my Sai Sri Somayujulu garu. One more incident narrated in this chapter has a parallel in my life. Baba appears in Lakshman mama Joshi's dream, pulls him by hand and tells him "Wake up fast, Bapu saheb thinks that I am dead, so he will not come, you perform my puja and give Kakada Harathi (given at pre-dawn time)". That day 11 Feb 92, it was 12th day after passing away of my uncle Sri Somayajulu garu, time for giving early morning Harathi to Sri Sai was fast approaching, the alarm did not ring, I did not get up from my sleep feeling still lazy, Sri Sai appeared, in the form of my uncle Sri Somayajulu garu, in my dream and asked me to recite his favorite Kakada Harathi. I got up with a start and looked at the clock on the wall, it was showing 6 AM in the morning, my alarm clock was not working, and I brushed my teeth and gave Kakada Harathi to Sri Sai. When mortal remains of my uncle Sri Somayajulu garu were placed on the funeral pyre at sunset time on 30 Jan 92, I remembered what Sri Hemadri Pant said in this chapter "The body made out of 5 elements will decay, the soul which is inside the body is the TRUTH, that soul is SAI". The day when all of us realize that Sri Sai is in you, in me and in everyone else, there will be no dearth of happiness and peace in this world. In service of Sri Sai, Your father. --------------------------- 6.JOIN CORRESPONDENCE COURSE ON BHAGAVAD -GITA: http://www.gita-society.com/lessons/saigita.htm --- ------ 7. SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA Swamy" : svswamy1 & swamyswarna 8/1/2004 09:27:00 -0700 Sai Ram. Let us continue with the exploration of the spiritual gems from chapter 12. "Some men desired to see Sai Baba's but they did not get any opportunity of taking His darshan, till His Mahasamadhi. There are many such persons, whose desire for Baba's darshan was not thus satisfied. If these persons, believing in Him, listen to His Leelas, their quest for milk (darshan) will be, to a great extent, satisfied by the butter-milk (Leelas)." Sai Ram. Since Baba was not confined to His physical body, He is present in His photographs, in His devotees, in His stories and in His name and of course in all Gods and Saints. So, a strong urge to reach Him through any of these different means establishes the connection. After all, as Baba told Shri Das Ganu Maharaj, When the devotee is bursting with love for Vitthal, He will make appearance, indicating that He is Antaryami or the Indweller. The same idea was also conveyed by Sai in similar words on other occasions too. So, looking at Baba's photo or painting is same as bowing to Him. This too was confirmed by Sai when He told a devotee that He knew Him for 4 years when that devotee went to Shirdi for the first time. Similarly, when Ratanji Wadia of Nanded was first asked to pay Rs.5 as dakshina and was also told that He already received a part of it, He indicated His oneness with Mauli Saheb, the porter saint of Nanded. Many more incidents can be seen in Satcharitra to indicate the oneness of Sai with all Saints and Gods. This is not surprising since it is the ego that limits one's consciousness and Sai, who was without the slightest trace of ego is One with that Supreme Consciousness that is called God, Allah, Jehova, ParaBrahman, Para Shakti etc. So, devotees could see in Him their own Guru, or favorite God. "If some persons went there by sheer luck and took Baba's darshan, were they able to stay there longer? No. Nobody could go there of his own accord, and nobody could stay there long even if he so wished. They could stay there, so long as Baba permitted them to stay, and had to leave the place when asked to do so by Baba; so everything depended of Baba's will." Every body has its Karma. Baba knew the karma of each and every man, woman and animal, its past, present and future. So, He arranged for the particular body to go to Shirdi, Prayag or some other sacred place at the appropriate time. Like He made Shama to go to Goddess Saptashringi and made the Pujari of the same Goddess come to Him, as desired by the Goddess. Like He made Shama go to Kasi and Prayag and met him there in the form of His portrait. Sai also told devotees that as long as one has one's ego, the results of one's karma have to be enjoyed or born. Thus one tends to take pride for doing good deeds and feels bad for doing either intentionally or even unintentionally bad deeds. This accumulation of karma results in more births to pay off those debts. Thus the cycle of births and deaths is perpetuated till one gets rid of one's ego through Brahma Jnana. Sai Ram. How Sai asked a devotee to leave the next day because Sai knew that the devotee was needed at his place of work will be taken up in the next installment. Sai Ram. S.V.Swamy --- --------------------- 8.QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY: (By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao) "Shashi": shashi_31 121. However men approach Me, I welcome them. There is scope for salvation being offered to everyone. His door is wide open to anyone who knocks at it. 122. Gain equilibrium when the Self joining the Eternal Self shall not be affected by pleasure of pain, desire or aversion. Moderation is the keynote of His Gospels. Attune your eyes with one Super-Self in the midst of turmoil. You must surrender to God, discharging your duties, not for results, but as a Divine duty. 123. When actions such as sacrifices are performed according to the Sastras one should not take any pride in being the doer. If anyone goes on a pilgrimage at another's expense, he cannot claim any merit of the pilgrimage. 124. The obligatory duties that are done from time to time should be done without pride. 125. The doer should not care for the fruit resulting from his actions. His actions should be done in a selfless manner just as a mother suckles the child of another woman. Nobody waters a fig tree expecting fruit from it. Similarly one should perform one's actions with indifference to the results. 126. Just as a cowherd looks after the cows of the village without longing for the milk, a person should be indifferent to the results of his own actions. If one does actions like this, one can attain knowledge of the Self. Therefore, My message to all is that they should perform actions renouncing all desires for its fruits, that is physical attachment. 127. Try to keep your hearts pure, if not so, your minds continue to be restless. 128. Some show their religiosity, such people are dwelling in a state of uncertainty and confusion. They feel as if they are moving in the dark groping for the real way that takes them to light and freedom. They delude themselves into the belief that they will be able to fulfill their quest in the near future. 129. Act purely for the love of God but not to please Him. Act as a steward but not as owner. You need not change your work, but should do work for its own sake. God regards not the greatness of the work, but the love with which it was done. All things are possible to him who believes, easier for him who hopes, easier still for him who loves, and easiest for him who preserves in the practice of all these things. 130. Inculcation of the virtue of love, tolerance, patience, industry, and total submission to the will of God are the milestones of philosophy. But not mere reading of philosophical books. To be continued… ------------------ 9. DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES: sastryrk 7/27/2004 21:05:00 -0600 JAI SAI RAM I was married in 1986 & I was working with M/s. Jenson & Nicholson India Limited as Commercial Assistant. I am looking for a Change in the job and I was going on sending lot of applications, but nobody was responding for the same. In the month of Nov 86 my father was performing Lakshavati Vratam. Myself, my Mrs & my sister have gone to my father-in-law's house at Rajahmundry for purchase of cloths for the function. That day was a Thursday and my father-in-law was doing Weekly Sai Satcharitra Parayana and the same was completed on Wednesday, and Thursday (next day) Evening he has offered Sweets to Lord Sai and given the same to all of us. He told by chance if Lord Sai Comes to anybody's dreams their ambitions will be through. That time I was not a Sai devotee, that day night in my dreams I have gone to a function to some of my relative's house. Since the function was going on even at late night also my father-in-law asked me to go back to the house as my Mrs & others are alone in the House. When I walking in the night alone Lord Sai was coming in the opposite direction. I was not looking at him and going like that only. Then he has just touched me and with a shock I have seen him, then he told me and the conversation is as follows: "Khya hai beta mera ku dekhe be aisa jare, Nahin Baba main nowkri keliye bahuth pareshaan hoon. Nahin beta pareshaani ki jarurat nia abhi mera haath tera sar pe lagayana, abhi jo be tere liye hona woh to ho jayega" Then I got up and I was surprised, how come he as come to my dreams, as I have never prayed him. It is only I had his prasadham and just listen the Satcharitra (few adyayanas) when my father-in-law was reading. That time onwards I have become his devotee and I got lot of times in the dreams (Samadhi Mandir) in to my dreams. Within a month's time I have joined in M/s Sylvania & Laxman Ltd., as Branch Accountant and with the blessings of Lord Sai when they are above to close the Company, just 2 months before I got an opportunity in M/s. Larsen & Toubro Ltd.,. Now I am leading a very happy life I got two daughters one in Engineering and other one in 10th Standard. I am now a true devotee of Lord Sai and I will be giving these experiences to lot of others who ever are in problems and ask them to pray Lord Sai. Even now I have any small problem I will leave it to Lord Sai and pray him to help and I forget about the same it will be cleared by him. I believe him and he will take care of the same. GVRK SASTRY India. -- --- 10. SAI WITH CHILDREN: http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpg Smt. Madhu Gopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad. Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use to play with children and used to tell stories to them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be entertained with good stories. Baba told before He took His Maha Samadhi that He is Muralidhar and would like to play in Booty Wada (Samadhi Mandir) with His devotees. So I started Krishna Leelas with effect from the first issue of New Year 2004. Study well and learn good manners. Tell your parents to read the Glory of Shirdi Sai - Fortnightly E-magazine and narrate Krishna Leelas from this magazine. AGHASURA: By now the cowherd boys were very confident that if a problem comes to them their friend Krishna would save them. They went inside the forests fearlessly. One day they all planned a special picnic in the woods. The gopikas made delicious eatables and packed them neatly in white pieces of cloth. They asked the cowherd boys to give a portion of it to Krishna. They would always send some thing or the other for Krishna as they did for their own children. They were all laughing, joking and making fun of each other, unaware of the danger that they lay ahead. Kansa had sent Aghasura who was the younger brother of Vyomasura to take revenge of his brother's death. Aghasura had transformed himself into a huge python and waited in the path of the cowboys. He had a big mouth and opened his jaws so much that the upper jaw reached the clouds. While the lower one rested on the ground. His body was more than three miles long. When he heard the laughter of the cowboys he lay patiently opening his mouth. As the cowboys came near the python they could not make out its real size and structure. Some thought it might be biggest cave in the forest. One of them touched the inner portion of its mouth, which was soft and decided that it could not be a cave. It could be a giant serpent, he said. Then all of them decided to explore, as they had no fear. They were sure that when Krishna was with them they would not be harmed. The rest agreed and they all drove their cattle inside the reddish mouth of the python. Krishna was moving in the rear and he immediately realized the danger. He shouted to the cowboys to stop and come out but it was too late and most of them had already went inside along with their cattle. Aghasura kept waiting with an open mouth till Krishna stepped in. The moment he would do so he would swallow all of them and crush them, the demon thought. Krishna entered the mouth of Aghasura but before he could close its mouth Krishna placed himself between Aghasura's throat. Then he began to expand his body so much so that the demon could not breathe any more and choked to death. Krishna then asked the cowboys to slip out through his legs along with the cattle. When all of them had gone out of its mouth Krishna too reduced his size and rushed out of the mouth. The python took its last breath and poisonous fumes came out of his mouth. But by the time Krishna and other cowboys had moved to safety along with their cattle. The gods in the heavens were all very happy at the end of Aghasura. Kansa's trouble had no end as one by one his demons were being killed by Krishna. Yet again cowherds thanked Krishna for saving their lives. They went to the banks of Yamuna, ate their delicious lunch and had a great time together. So much of adventure had made them terribly hungry and they ate to their heart's content. But they could narrate the incident to their parents only after a year. …To be continued. --------------------------- 11. ARTICLES FROM SAIDEVOTEES: sainama D.Sankaraiah Hyderabad SELF AWAKENING INSTITUTION (SAI)- Part2. A Sadhguru only can be a perfect guide. He will naturally be well conversant with the route we have to go. He can shower His grace by mere glance or by touch or by thought. He awakens in us "I am He (Brahman)`consciousness manifests the joy of Self Realization. For seeing Brahman, we have to surrender at His feet five pranas, five senses, mind, intellect and ego. The author of Sai Satcharita states (Chap. XVI) that Chintamani, Kamadhenu and Kalpataru can only give what we desire; but a Sadhguru gives us the most precious thing that is inconceivable and inscrutable (The Reality). Certain qualifications are prescribed for admission into the Self-Awakening Institution as detailed in Chapter XVI of Sai Satcharita. They are the intense desire to get free from bondage, disgust with worldly objects, Antarmukhata, purging away of Sins, Right conduct, preferring good things to pleasant things, control of mind, purification of the mind, the necessity of a Guru and above all Lord's grace. We need not be frightened by all the unalloyed love towards Baba. He takes care of the above requirements. We should make Him the sole object of our thoughts and actions. Let us recapitulate Baba`s nectar like words, "Meditate on my formless nature which is knowledge, incarnate consciousness and bliss. If you cannot do this, meditate on my form from top to bottom as you see. If you go on doing this your vrittis (thoughts) will concentrate at one point and the distinction between the Dhyata (meditator), Dhyana (act of meditation) and Dhyeya (thing meditated upon) will be lost and the meditator will be one with the consciousness and be merged in the Brahman"(Chap XVII) we learn from chapter VI of Sai Satcharita, "If any one prostrates before Sai and surrenders heart and soul to Him, then unsolicited all the chief objects of life viz., Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha are easily attained". Sai further assured "If you spread your palms with devotion before Me I am immediately with you day and night". We do not know anything, what we know is nothing unless it is implemented and experienced. Reading cannot believe, seeing only is believing. Let us dedicate our body and soul to Sai who can awaken our self by His grace. We know that Sai watches all our actions and movements wherever we may be yet we become slaves to the senses and act against the interest of our Self-Realization. Adi Sankara preached that Satsangh ultimately leads to Jivan Mukti. It may not be possible for most of us to be in the company of pious souls. Does not matter. We can take our mind to Sai, Shirdi, Samadi Mandir Dwaraka Mayi, Chavadi. We can recollect Sai Leelas or any holy scripture. This act also forms part of Satsangh. Devotion means unwavering love towards God, Peerless faith in Sai coupled with utmost patience is sufficient to attain salvation. Let us all become students of this Institution, learn what is taught through Sai Satcharita and other sacred Sai literature and work. His invisible grace to see Him within us. Let us give serious thought to Vivekananda`s words. "If there is a God we must see Him, if there is a soul we must perceive it, otherwise it is better not to believe. It is better to be an out-spoken atheist than a hypocrite". Let us see Sai in us and in every creature and prove to ourselves that we are neither out-spoken atheists nor hypocrites. This proof is required for our own conscience only not for the outside world. D.Sankaraiah Hyderabad. --- ---- 12. Sai Darbar is blessed and is completely under the grace of our Lord Shri Sai Nath. Our Chapter started a year ago and since then, with the blessings of Shri Sai, we have grown significantly, both in size of the organization and spiritually as well. This proves that Our Dear Lord Shri Sai is constantly watching us, teaching us, and helping us in spiritual growth. We could not have achieved all this without the constant grace of our Dear Lord and tremendous moral support from our founder member Shri Gopal Rao (Sai Banisa), founder member Sai Darbar movement. During my recent visit to India, our family had a chance to visit Sai Darbar, Hyderabad. It is the exact replica of Dwarka Mayi; with Baba's Picture, Dhuni (electronic), Brick, Paduka and all other things that Baba used during His lifetime. Shri Gopal Rao has made a portion of His residence, which used to be his kitchen garden, as this beautiful Dwarka Mayi. It reminded me of one thing- that present day Baba's Samadhi Mandir was constructed on the then maintained `Brindavan' by Shri Sai Himself. If any of our members visits Hyderabad, they should visit this place. It is so divine that one can feel the positive energy there. Recently I found out that an editor of Telugu Bhakti (www.telugubhakti.com) Shri Raghav Rao had visited Sai Darbar in Hyderabad and interviewed Shri Gopal Rao (Saibanisa). The editor's words were truly my feelings. He has explained well about Sai Darbar, so much so that I could not do in my words. This confirms the Grace of Dear Lord on Sai Darbar.
