Guest guest
Shri Hemadpanth narrates the story of two lizards in Sai Satcharitha (Shri Sai Satcharitha Chapter 15, in the English Version by Sri Nagesh Vasudev Gunaji). This story narrates an incident where Sai Baba answered a devotee who was curious about a lizard that was tick ticking. Sainath replied that the particular lizard was overjoyed as her sister was coming from Aurangabad. The devotee sat there, not able to make anything out of this strange reply from Baba. Immediately, a gentleman came to see Baba from Aurangabad on a horseback. As he was trying to open the bag of grams to feed the tired horse, a lizard jumped out of it. In the presence of everyone there, this lizard climbed up the wall, rushed towards her sister. Soon they began playing and dancing with joy. The writer ends this chapter in Sai Satcharithamritha with a post- script that those who read this chapter with respect will get all his miseries removed by Sadguru Sai Baba. What is so significant about this chapter? For a rational mind, this incident may be quite puzzling. How did Baba know about those lizards? Did he know the minds of animals and their language? Has He been informed that the gentleman from Aurangabad is going to arrive at that time? On the other hand, for a staunch devotee, this would be the acceptance of just another miracle of Sai Baba. This story may seem so trivial, but, a careful attention to this story reveals the magnificence of His wisdom and the knowledge of every incidence that takes place. Contemplation by the devotee on the thoughts of His awareness of things big and small will reveal the true nature of His self. This strengthens one’s faith in his caretaker resulting in the acceptance of His disposition. At times, we get agitated when things around us go haywire. Some times, it appears as if things are out of our control and we are not making any progress. However, the realization that He knows everything that goes on and He is the wirepuller who will eventually give us what is good for us will remove all our concerns. Shri Ammula Sambasiva Rao, in "Life story of Shirdi Sai Baba", referring to the above incident wrote as follows: Baba, who read the minds of the devotees said, "Not only about these lizards, but what is happening in every atom in the world, I know. Without permission the leaves on the tree also will not flutter. God is all-powerful. All should know the rules of this creation. Even I cannot go against them. God is the creator of all Universe, Allah Malik hai source:saibaba.org Arun Reddy Nukala +44-7946-595063 +44-2085-695116 BT Broadband - Free modem offer, sign up online today and save £
Guest guest
Sharing some thoughts about the story of the 2 lizards. Kindly forgive me and correct me for any mistakes. Once when a devotee was sitting and chit-chatting with Baba in the Masjid, they saw a lizard tick-ticking. Out of curiosity, the devotee asked baba whether this signified anything particular and whether it was a good omen or a bad omen ? Baba replied to him saying that the lizard was overjoyed as her sister from Aurangabad was coming to see her. The devotee was puzzled about what Baba was saying..how can a lizard travel all the way from Aurangabad to Shirdi to meet her sister! He continued to sit there and what he witnessed just left him awestruck! A gentleman from Aurangabad came on horse back to see Baba. He wanted to proceed further but his horse would not move a step further as she was hungry and wanted grams. So the gentleman dashed the bag containing the grams to the ground to remove the dirt from the bag and feed the grams to the horse. Immediately from the bag, a lizard came out and in the presence of all climbed the wall and went towards her sister. They embraced, kissed and danced around with love. Baba asked the devotee to note where the lizard, which came out of the bag, went. To the surprise and witness of all sitting in the Masjid- the lizard had indeed come all the way from Aurangabad to meet her sister. Through this the faith of the devotees on Baba got reaffirmed. Also the omniscience and all pervading nature of Baba is illustrated through this leela. Also through this illustration, Baba clarifies that there is no good or bad omen if a particular creature tick-ticks or crosses our way. This is all about our being superstitious. For eg. If a black cat crosses our way when we are set out for a important assignment, we consider it a bad omen. If the out come of the assignment is not in our favor, we blame the cat for having brought bad luck. Little do we give a thought that what is reaping is as we sow, the fruits of our action irrespective of whether it’s good or bad. It is the grinding of karma or prarabhdha that we face in form of short falls or hurdles and not contribute the same to any creature’s crossing our path or tick-ticking. Baba teaches us a lesson that we should not be superstitious. Just as we humans beings communicate, the other creations of Lord also communicate in their own language. Be it a lizard or cat or a parrot, Baba the al knowing and the Ultimate Brahman knew and understood the language of each of the creatures in the universe. Sai being the omnipresent and omniscient knew by which mode the other sister lizard from Aurangabad would come. He is the wirepuller. He alone knows the hearts desire of his children. To make the sisters meet Sainath had arranged for the devotee from Aurangabad to visit him on horse back. Here, Sai only makes all arrangement to fulfill the hearts desire of his children. The merits of the lizard were so high that horse stopped in front of Masjid where Baba resides. The lizard strutted into the Masjid to meet her sister in presence of Masjidmayi. As Baba has promised – who so ever sits on the lap of Masjidamayi , his evils will be warded off by the Masjidamayi and will be taken care of. The lizard and also other creatures that were present or visited Masjidamayi are also thus protected by the presiding deity of Dwarkamai. The two pice of Baba’s philosophy – Shraddha and Saburi is also clearly demonstrated in this story of the 2 lizards. The lizard coming from Aurangabad had shraddha , strong desire that she has to come to Shirdi to meet her sister and firmly believed that the Lord will help her to reach her destination. On the other hand, her sister in Shirdi had the Saburi (patience) to wait for her sister to come from Aurangabad and meet her. >From this story of the 2 lizards we must learn to have Shradha and Saburi in every act and have firm faith in the wirepuller Sadguru.
