Guest guest
Aum Sai Ram, (Source........Sri Lalita Sahasranama printed by Sri Ramakrishna Math) V The process of evolution mentioned above was similar to that earlier process by which the Vedic gods gave place in later times to the Supreme God of a monotheistic faith---a Vishnu or a Shiva . And , first of all, just as there were no hard and fast lines between one Vedic God and another ,each of the gods fadding off in to the others ,so there were no hard and fast lines between one Goddess and another . The famous Vedic dictum ,Ekam Sat ,vipra baudha vadanti---( The reality is one ,the wise speak of it in different ways )---applied as much to the later Goddesses as to the earlier gods .Also just as Vishnu is said to have descended several times to punish Rakashas ,a Hiranyakasipu ,a Ravana or a Sisupala ,so in the parallel development of Devi ,we have several of her forms arising to quell the demons of the day---Chandi arising to quell Mahishasura ,Kali coming to kill Chanda and Munda and Lalita rising out of the sacrificial fire to slay Bhanda and his sons , And , closely parallel to the famous Geeta passages in which the Bhagwan explains why He comes down as an Avatar from age to age ,we have the following passages in the Devi Mahatmya : " Whenever there is trouble of any kind caused by the Danavas ,at each such time I shall incarnate myself and accomplish the destruction of the enemy ." Thus in the history of our religion there have arisen two types of monotheism------one centring around a supereme God and another round a supereme Goddess ,both of whom are admittedly only symbols of the impersonal Absolute.
