4. SAI PHILOSOPHY:

SAI PHILOSOPHY FROM THE DIARY OF SAI.BA.NI.SA.

These messages are the outcome and essence of the dream sequences of

Saibanisa as given by Lord Sainath, which reflect the Sai Philosophy

and his high thinking. They carry a sense of deep meaning and are

generally thought provoking, enough to set one's thinking process.

Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY.

140) 25th October 1993: However, costly the vegetables may be, they

need to be boiled and cooked before consumption for better

digestion. Irrespective of your religion, the practice of the

teachings is a must to realize the "SUPREME".

141) 29th October 1993: I shall always lend a helping hand to the

handicapped people to enable them to reach their destination.

142) 11th November 1993: Jealousy and hatred should be shelved to

avoid the implant of greed and avarice, multiplying your miseries.

143) 11th November 1993: With all the goodwill and blessings

of "SADHGURU" commence the journey through life and beware of

potholes and speed breakers. If you fail to sight them it is not the

fault of "SADHGURU". It is only due to "AHANKARA" (Ego) prevailing

in you.

144) 18th November 1993: All your ancestors have been subjected to

the "PYRE" on this land. Let it be forgotten as a matter of the past.

145) 20th November 1993: Helping a stranger in trouble may some

times scare him .It is but natural. Help them unobtrusively if

required and forget about them.

Letter – 46 (Chapter – 49)

Dear Chakrapani,

Sri Hemadri Pant narrates stories of

two individuals who became Sai devotees and of a Sai devotee, who

was in a mental agony, as he could not control his senses, in this

chapter. You will be very much surprised when you read these three

episodes before reading this letter. You will generate an intense

faith in Sri Sai. By the way, I have not explained why I am writing

this letter from Rajamundry Railway Station isn't it? I have done

today's daily devotional reading of chapter 49 from Sri Sai

Satcharitra while traveling in a train. You can see a close

relationship between this train journey of mine, my life's journey

analogous to a train journey and Sri Hemadri Pant's words in this

chapter – "If we perform our duties Sri Sai will unfailingly help

us." I commenced this train journey from Secunderabad Railway

station last night for Visakhapatnam for fulfilling my duties in

life, placing faith in these words. I am writing this letter en-

route from Rajamundry Railway station. It is my duty to perform

marriage of your elder sister. There is a need for formally

accepting the alliance this evening at Visakhapatnam and finalize

the details for the ceremony. I am going ahead seeking Sri Sai's

help in the matter. The advice given by Guru to Sri Somadeva Swami

is narrated in this chapter thus – "The place, where the mind is at

peace, happy and is attracted to, is the place where we must take

rest".

Listen now, I am telling you the wish I am aspiring for in my life.

I want to build Sai Darbar in my house, built by me at Kamala nagar

in Hyderabad, and want to spend the rest of my life in service of

Sri Sai. I need Sri Sai's grace and your co-operation for

fulfillment of this wish of mine. There is a need for everyone to

know Sri Sai's advice to Nanasaheb Chandorkar, when he was in a

mental turmoil due to his inability to control his senses on seeing

a beautiful woman, as narrated in this chapter – "Nana! Why are you

unnecessarily restless? Let the sense organs do their work. We

should not interfere with them. GOD has created this beautiful

world, so everyone has a right to view this beauty and be happy".

Nana realized his mistake and drove away the evil thoughts from his

mind. In my case, when I was in meditation once, Sri Sai said – "

Desire for other woman (not one's wife) and relationship with such a

woman is analogous to traveling without a ticket in a train". There

will not be peace and happiness in such a journey in life and we

will not reach our life's destination. I cannot write to you more

explicitly than this regarding this matter. Please go ahead in your

life keeping in view what is good and what is bad.

In service of Sri Sai,

Your father.

7. SPIRITUAL GEMS

FROM SAI SATCHARITRA

Sai Ram. We have seen how Mulay Sastri, a great devotee of a Sadguru

and a follower of His Varnashrama Dharma was blessed by Baba, albeit

with a gentle message to him that God is above all Varnas and Gunas.

Now let us see how a great devotee of Ram was blessed by Baba and

again was instructed spiritually. "Once a Mamlatdar came to Shirdi

with a Doctor friend of his. The Doctor said that his Deity was Rama

and that he would not like to bow before anybody else, and so, he

was unwilling to go to Shirdi. The Mamlatdar replied, that nobody

would press him to make a bow, nor would ask him to do so. So he

should come and give the pleasure of his company." Sai Ram. Bhakti

manifests itself in many ways. One stage of the Bhakti is like that

of a Pativrata, who is totally devoted to her husband and doesn't

even look at any other man. This devotee was of that type. However,

his prejudice about Baba was without basis and Baba, very kindly

decided to pull him to His feet and open his eye.

"Accordingly, they came to Shirdi, and went to the Dwarakamai for

Baba's darshan. All were wonder-struck to see the Doctor going ahead

and offering salutations to Baba. They asked him how he forgot his

resolve? Then the Doctor replied that he saw his beloved Deity,

Rama, on the seat and he, therefore prostrated himself before Him.

Then as he was saying this, he saw Sai Baba there again. Being

dismayed, he said, "Is this a dream? He realized Baba as a great

Yogasampanna (full of Yoga) Avatar." This devotee was indeed

fortunate. His eyes were opened to the Oneness of God/Spirit/Baba.

Hopefully his prejudice against a religion would have been removed.

It is perfectly OK for one to practice his own religion and his own

duties befitting his caste, profession etc., but it is not OK to

fell superior or inferior to any one else. In this God created

Universe, everything has its rightful place. The notion of good and

bad arises out of the sense of duality, which is a creation of the

ego.

"Next day, he made a vow and began to fast. He absented himself from

the Dwarakamai, resolving not to go there, until Baba blessed him.

Three days passed and on the fourth day, a close friend of his from

Khandesh, turned up, and with him, he went to the Dwarakamai for

Baba's darshan. After the salutation, Baba asked him, whether

anybody had gone to call him, so that he had come. Hearing this

vital question, the Doctor was moved. The same night he was blessed

by Baba, and he experienced the Bliss supreme, in his sleep. Then he

left for his town, where the experienced the same state for a

fortnight. Thus his devotion to Sai Baba increased manifold." Sai

Ram. This story has a beautiful moral. Devotion to one's Guru/God is

never wasted. It refines the ego and at the right time opens the

door for further instructions (like in above cases) and thus assures

progress. "The moral of all the stories mentioned above,

specially, that of Moolay Shastri, is this that we should have firm

faith in our Guru and nowhere else." Sai Ram. This dictum is very

true and can also be interpreted slightly differently. It can thus

be interpreted as follows: "See your Guru or God in all beings,

since your Guru/God is not confined to His Physical body but is

universal albeit with that body to help you focus on Him. Sai Ram.

We have for the time being completed this great chapter. We will in

the next issue, take up the Leelas of Baba in the realm of health.

Sai Ram.

12. How To Enjoy The Ecstacy By Following Sri Sai's Sayings

When we are established in TRUTH that Divinity in us is all-

pervasive, then we feel greatly energized. The realization of this

truth erases the difference between us and God, mind and thine.

Everything is God's manifestation. This perspective must be

developed by us. There is nothing like good and bad in this world.

In the eyes of God, there was no such thing as bad. It is only the

vision of the observer, which is defective and finds defects in

others. Because of changes in time, things look different. But the

form of truth is the same. There is nothing greater than our heart.

We must develop this faith in us.

"Brahmavid Brahmaiva Bhavathi Yadh Bhaavam Thad Bhavathi"

This means that we should think that `I am God' and this truth will

bestow on us the Divine aspect, which we should contemplate on. Soul

is infinite, immortal and eternal. But man derives delight in

enjoying the momentary pleasures of the world, instead of drinking

the nectar of the springs of life. The scramble for transitory

pleasures robs men of peace and joy. It is the quality of

determination that causes the difference. You must earnestly resolve

to erase the difference of `I' and `You' and regard your fellow men

as good as yourself. Man cannot understand the value of food unless

he is hungry. Hunger enables man to relish food. Similarly sorrow

enables man to relish joy. Pain and pleasure are like sun and the

shadow both of which go together.

A man who suffers from attachment is prey to fear. If he allows it,

it will grow. Then it ultimately ends as disease. If the waves of

KAMA and KRODHA are not nipped in the bud, they assume great

proportions. Just leading a righteous life only is not sufficient,

he must also lead a Divine life as well. It is not if we close our

eyes and say "SAI-SAI". All our activities should be suffused with

Divinity. Whatever we see with a Divine feeling, whatever we hear

and whatever we do with a Divine feeling, we will enjoy the ecstasy

of Sai Baba's Swaroop and the underlying meaning of His sayings.

Thus, we see that we are not he body but the indwelling Self. The

more we identify with the Self and distance ourselves from our body,

the more human we become. Giving up animistic behavior, we gain full

manhood. By following appropriate spiritual practices prescribed by

Baba, we can rise further to Godhood and ultimately reach Baba's

lotus feet and become one with Him, in due course of time.

9. DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES:

A Saidevotee from Chennai, India

On 11th Feb. 2001 at Kancheepuram we performed Maha

Kumbabhishekam to our presiding deity Lord Shiva located in the

serene and idyllic village of Singadivakkam, which is situated at a

distance of 14 Km away from Kancheepuram towards Chennai. About a

thousand of devotees were blessed to attend the celestial ceremony

in all its splendor and glory. The function was graced by high

dignitaries from all walks of life. This function lasted for two

days. Having performed the Maha Kumbabhishekam in all its fullest

and utmost satisfaction we proceeded to the bus terminus to board

the bus to Chennai. Whilst waiting in the queue to collect the

reservation tickets, due to the high commotion and unmanageable

crowd at the reservation counter my mother by oversight left the bag

on one of the chair in the waiting hall? The bag contained Jewels

worth 30 sovereigns and cash amount of Rs.1500/= in all. After lapse

of ten minutes having collected the reservation coupon we boarded

the bus, which started after a delay of ten minutes. Fifteen minutes

after the bus left Kancheepuram, all of a sudden we realized the bag

was missing and we could recollect that the bag was left behind at

the bus terminus. My mother and my wife were in a confused state of

mind about the missing bag. On coming to know about the loss of the

bag, the co-passengers discouraged us from going back to

Kancheepuram to retrieve the bag. But my wife Mrs. Rani Nagarajan

was firm and confident that the bag would certainly be there. So we

alighted from the bus and proceeded back to Kancheepuram by an auto

rickshaw to reach the bus terminus after a period of 15 minutes. By

the grace of our ANTHYARYAMI AND SABKASAMI the bag was lying there

safe and untouched in the very same crowded place having not

attracted the eyes of passers-by. And now shall I tell you my dear

SAI bandhus the bag contained Babas Udhi, Aarthi Song books and

locket of Shirdi Sai apart from the things mentioned earlier. This

exhilarating experience reveals the unending and continuous miracles

of Sai Udhi

Saibaba helped me in so many ways and so many times. Once I felt

that I am in trouble and there is nothing and no one can able to get

rid of that problem. But ultimately the GREAT SAI helped as usual at

the last moment and saved me and my family. I can't forget the help

that Sai has done to us. I hope strongly that Baba is ever living

with anyone who remembers him every moment.

10. SAI WITH CHILDREN:

http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpg

Smt. Madhu Gopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad.

Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use to play with

children and used to tell stories to them? I felt children visiting

Saidarbar should be entertained with good stories. Baba told before

He took His Maha Samadhi that He is Muralidhar and would like to

play in Booty Wada (Samadhi Mandir) with His devotees. So far you

have enjoyed Krishna Leelas. Baba has also established his identity

with Lord Sri Rama. Now I will take you through our epic Ramayan

from this issue. Tell your parents to read the Glory of Shirdi Sai –

Bi-weekly E-magazine and narrate Ramayan from this magazine.

THE FOUR PRINCES:

There was a sage named Vishvamitra who lived in his hermitage in the

forest. He meditated and did yagyas for the welfare of mankind. He

was always disturbed and tormented by demons; so, one day, the sage

Vishvamitra came to the court of King Dasharatha. The king and the

queens welcomed him and treated him respectfully. The four princes

too folded their hands reverentially and touched his feet

respectfully.

Feeling honored by the sage's visit Dasharatha said with

veneration, "Most Revered Sir! I am highly honored by your holy

visit. Of what service can I be to you?" Vishvamitra said, "O great

King! I have no worldly desires. I am a hermit devoted to worship,

meditation and yagyas in the dense forest. But for some time some

wicked demons defile my sacred rites and they throw blood and flesh

into the holy fire, so I am unable to say my prayers, meditate or

perform yagyas. I have come here to ask you to send Rama with me. I

am sure your valorous prince will be able to rid me of these wicked

demons who prowl in the forest at all time and disturb the hermits.

Hearing this King Dasharatha became sad. He did not wish to send

Rama, the apple of his eye and heir to his throne, to face

unforeseen dangers and fight the demons in the vast forest. He,

therefore, thought of a way out, and with folded hands and

reverence, said to Vishvamitra, "Holy Sir! How can Rama, a mere lad,

venture out alone and fight against those evil-spirited demons? Rama

is but a tender boy. He is too young and unskilled to face the

demons. I am ready to send my entire army to protect you. My brave

soldiers are capable enough to exterminate the horde of demons. They

will make it certain that no one disturbs you in your worship and

meditation, or pollutes your sacred yagyas."

But the sage declined the King's offer of detailing his army. He

said, " O king, do not fear your son's safety. I am sure you

yourself know the courage and valour of your prince. It is your

great attachment to Rama, which makes you to deny what I ask you. I

am sure Rama can protect me all by himself. O King, cast off your

fear and send Rama with me as you have promised to grant me my wish."

All the entreatments were in vain. Dasharatha even pleaded to the

sage that he himself would accompany him for his protection but

Vishwamitra was adamant. As Dasharatha was assured of Rama's safety

by Vishvamitra, he reluctantly gave his consent. He sent for Rama.

When Rama came and learnt of Vishvamitra's wish, he was radiant with

joy and said, " I am very much honored by the holy man who has given

me a chance to obey my father and to live, protect and learn from

the holy sage himself." When Lakshmana came to know of this he

insisted to accompany Rama because he was too attached to Rama to

let him go alone in the forest. With Rama and Lakshmana, Vishvamitra

set out for the forest.

11. ARTICLES FROM SAI DEVOTEES

Sankaraiah Dubagunta" sainama

SRI BAPATLA HANUMANTHA RAO GARU

Sai Vyasa H H B V N Swamiji, Founder - President, All India Sai

Samaj, Mylapore, Madras did yeomen Sai Seva benefitting non-marathi

knowing devotees through his discourses, publications, poojas etc.

It is in this context Sainath Maharaj directed Sri Swamiji to

contact Sri Hanumantha Rao garu. Sri Rao garu was born on 14-09-1902

to pious couple Sri Bapatla Veeraiah garu and Smt Chinna punnamma

garu. He opted teaching profession for livelihood. Himself being a

scholar in Sanskrit,Telugu and Hindi he authored several books for

the benefit of devotee readers. Maya dragged our Rao garu into

business field as the meager income as school teacher was

insufficient to meet both ends. But his adventure in business was a

total failure as he was destined to do Divine Service in the days to

come. In this context, let us note Baba's words "I take everything

of you before I give something". Loss of property in business caused

depression and he came to the conclusion that he could not survive

under those conditions. On 27-12-1944 an old man in yellow dress

appeared in his dream. Sri Rao asked the old man "Who are you? What

do you want?I am Sai Baba. I know you have written several books.

Now you propose to write another book(Sant Tulsidas Rama Charitham).

Let it be there. You Write these books _ _ _!" .So said Sai Baba.

He further added observing Rao's silence "What! Do you doubt? I am

your Ishta Devata"Baba gave darshan as Siva, Rama, Krishna and

Maruthi and again appeared as Sai Baba and blessed with Abhaya

Hastha. Thus Sai Baba brought them together through dream visions.

Swamiji sent one devotee by name Banda Adinarayana Rao from Chirala

a town in Andhra Pradesh to Sri Rao. On learning from the

representative of Swamiji that he came to take Rao to Swamiji. It

was a pleasant surprise to Rao and his joy knew no bounds as his

dream vision was a reality within hours. Sri Swamiji gave Baba's

photo, udhi and blessed him. He requested Sri Rao to translate some

of his books on Sai. On seeing the photo he got conformed that Sai

Baba gave him darshan in the dream. Sai nath prabhu had chosen him

for spreading Sai's teachings to the Telugu-knowing devotees. His

Sai seva includes publication of books in Telugu, correspondence

with Sai devotees clarifying their doubts, performing Sahasra Nama

Pooja on behalf of devotees either in person or in abscence,

arranging discourses on Sai Baba. As assured by Baba "Why fear when

I am here?" the wish-fulfilling tree, 'SAI' granted prayers of Sri

Rao on behalf of devotees. Sai had chosen him as an instrument in

bringing several devotees into Sai fold. He got installed Babas

marble Murthy at his Chingangam residence. He retired as a school

teacher in the year 1962. This gave lot of opportunity to serve

Sainath Prabhu. Some of his Sai experiences are indicated below to

confirm Sai is more active from his Samadhi.

1.He prayed to Baba how to maintain the family after retirement from

service. Sri Sai appeared in his dream shown a plate on which "Kya

thuje upeksha kartha hu?"(What? Do I ignore you?)was inscribed. For

5 years he was appointed on yearly basis so that he could have his

monthly income.

2. Once during the year 1962 his house was full of guests. He

approached his regular trader for supply of rice. As pantulu garu

was already overdue, the trader refused to give further supplies.

Naturally the attention of Sri Rao garu diverted towards Shirdi

Sainath. Most merciful Sai Eshwar in the guise of the trader brought

half a bag of rice under the plea that fresh stocks arrived.

3.One day Sri Rao was walking in between two rail lines because of

certain mental disturbance. He did not observe that a train was

coming behind him. Of course he had hearing problem. Sainath

physically pulled him out of the Railway track.

4.One day when he was writing something a dog carried away his

chappal. Having seen this he threw away the other chappal on the

dog. But soon realized and prayed "Baba I could not recognize and

see you in the dog and threw chappal. As self-imposed punishment I

shall never wear chappals in my life. But one hot day he was going

to his house from the bus stop, he could not walk .He prayed to Baba

and sought Baba's guidance. Suddenly a person with a pair of shoes

approached Rao and said "I am having one pair of shoes please take

them and pay rupees two only which you are having at present" Saying

so he gave the shoes.

5.One day he went to the Railway station to go to Vijayawada. But as

there was no time to purchase the ticket he dropped the idea.

Suddenly a person gave railway ticket to Vijayawada under the plea

he had dropped the journey.

6.His proposed trip to Shirdi with his wife was not approved by Baba

as He was with him always.

7.Baba cured his eye ailment in a dream.

8.Baba appeared in his dream on 2-2-1959 and showed "Phenomenon in

dream is no more when once awakened, so also the visible world is no

more when one attains realization of one's own self".

9.On 3-4-1960 Baba directed in his dream to lit deep and pray for

showering His grace.

10.He had darshan of Baba of Puttaparthi in Banglore and had

blessings.

Having served Sai, his soul merged into Sai on 7-11-1973 after

taking Udhi specially brought from Shirdi.

His services to Telugu knowing devotees are memorable. His son Sri

Bapatla Venkata Pardhasaradhi is continuing same seva.

May Sai Nath bless us all?
