NEW DELHI: An hour-long audience granted to JD(S) breakaway leader H D Kumaraswamy and BJP's B S Yediyurappa by spiritual guru Satya Sai Baba near Bangalore on Thursday is seen to have put the final seal on the power-sharing deal that the two parties have forged in Karnataka. The lengthy darshan obtained by the JD(S)-BJP duo is seen to be significant in view of the speculation that has beset the alliance almost since the day it was forged. It is also seen as an unequivocal signal to the Congress leadership that there is no likelihood of a change in the script, at least for now. BJP leaders are also banking on the wide following that Sai Baba enjoys in the state to help beam out the message that the Godman's blessings indicate that the coalition was in good health and that it was now well-placed to take charge of the state. Kumaraswamy is expected to be sworn-in as chief minister and Yediyurappa as deputy chief minister on Friday afternoon. The Sai Baba appointment was fixed through a TDP MP who is a well-known devotee of the Godman. The Baba has many high-profile political followers, including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Leader of Opposition L K Advani. Even when he meets VVIP devotees, the Godman usually does not spare more than half-an-hour for a darshan. Kumaraswamy and his MLAs were expected to now meet JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda one last time before the new government was sworn-in.
