Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba says:

21. On Dharma (Right-conduct) Of Youth:

 

What is that you achieve in this lifetime? Everything is passing

clouds. At this tender (youthful) age, you study hard and you

participate in several activities. But everything is temporary except

Divine love, which is the one thing that is permanent. If in this life

you do not manage to earn Divine Love-what is the use of the rest of

your accomplishments (things achieved)? You may live long but you have

to go back and without Divine Love you return empty handed. What

happened to the mighty kings who ruled over great kingdoms? Just as we

inhale and then exhale, eat and evacuate we must give up our life some

day. You have to earn money, but you also have to undertake sadhana

(practice) and sacrifice (i.e sacrifice bad qualities). The purpose of

life is not just to amass (accumulate) wealth and hold on to money and

property. What we have to amass (accumulate) is Dharma (Right

–conduct). This Dharma (Right-conduct) is your permanent property.

If you have wasted your life, what kind of spiritual sadhana (practice)

can you undertake in the old age. In order to win the war you should be

recruited while young. You need training right from the young age. All

that namasmarana (Chanting God's name with love) and chanting will

become your refuge (shelter from pursuit, danger, or trouble). If you

don't cultivate devotion now, when will you? It is a mistake to think

you will have plenty of time and opportunities later. Your devotion

should start right from now. If a plant is straight, then the tree

grows straight. If the plant is bent, so will also the tree. This

tender age is sacred (Dedicated to God).
