birthday fete Thursday November 24 2005 10:31 IST ANANTAPUR: The 80th

birthday celebrations of Satya Saibaba were held with pomp and gaiety at

Puttaparthi on Wednesday.

Devotees started pouring in since Tuesday night itself. Over a lakh people

participated in the celebrations braving incessant rain.

Every inch of space in the Hill View Guest House, the venue, was filled with

people by 7 AM itself. The open ground had a canopy of plastic sheets. Saibaba

came to the stadium in a procession in a Japan-made special car wearing a

spotless white dress.

Foreign devotees who came for celebrations staged a march past.

Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka Vilasrao Deshmukh,

Narendra Modi and Dharam Singh respectively, former chief minister N

Chandrababu Naidu, Governors of AP and Maharashtra SK Shinde and SM Krishna

respectively, Ministers K Rosaiah, J Geeta Reddy, N Raghuveera Reddy and PCC

president Keshav Rao were present.

Cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Lakshman were also present. Source:
