Saibaba urges people to reach out to have-nots

Staff Reporter

Tells devotees to follow path of truth, righteousness and love

IN REVERENCE: Star batsman Sachin Tendulkar seeking the blessings of Satya

Saibaba at Puttaparthi on Wednesday.

PUTTAPARTHI: "We don't qualify to be called ourselves a society if we don't

care for fellow men. We can call ourselves a society only if we strive for

equality," Satya Saibaba said on Wednesday. Delivering a discourse on the

occasion of his 80th birthday at the Sai Hill View Stadium here, he said:

"One's position or status in life, however high it may be, will be useless

without the qualities of truth, righteousness and love. The knowledge acquired

without these characteristics will be a mere waste." "Man should yearn for

peace and not for position in life," he suggested and urged the haves to help

the have-nots. "Man's mission on earth is to help his brethren and not just to

enjoy or develop himself. One has to gain awareness of the self to make the

knowledge acquired meaningful," Saibaba said. Lack of peace

Reflecting on today's lifestyle, he said: "Man's quest for worldly pleasures

is distancing him from peace of mind." He asked people to "live in truth and

love" as God would help only those who had the twin virtues. As are your

thoughts so are your deeds," he said, and asked his devotees to have control

over the thinking process.Terming love "internal current" and truth "external

current," Saibaba advised his devotees to have a mix of both and lead a

contented and meaningful life. He said that every human being had the

responsibility to see God in others and love all. He also wished everyone a

life full of happiness and love.Earlier, the devout braved intermittent showers

for over 90 minutes to hear the words of wisdom of their beloved spiritual

leader.
