Some of us devote more time to Seva. Some of course do neither ... In spiritual life, to get development, there should be equilibrium, or balance, between sattvic and rajasic qualities. Once you give more importance to the rajas guna, your sattvic guna will be less. After a few years, you are a very good Seva worker (in the ashram or elsewhere), but you are a very bad in spiritual life, you have no development. BABA is teaching both .... but we are accepting the second one. Why? Because the forces of mind are manifesting as avidya, or ignorance, this is called maya. Although we have interest, still consciously or unconsciously we are slipping away from sattvic and gravitating toward rajasic. That which is real, we are not giving importance to that, this is avidya. The unreal, we are thinking it is real. I sincerely feel ....that 'Sadhana' is more important and real compared with 'Seva'. When we think seva is more important than sadhana, because of avidya, spiritual life is spoiled. Why again? Simple .....just think deeply ... When you give one guna more importance (sleeping, eating food, taking bath), you are more tamasic. If you are exceeding eight hours in spiritual practice (meditating, study, self contemplation) you are more sattvic and you will progress in spiritual life. So ...if you work more than 8 hours seva, you are spoiling your spiritual life. You are not in an ashram or on this holy planet ..in a sacred HUMAN birth .... just to live a life. Most of the persons I have seen in the ashram they have told me that they cannot practice, they are just living to live their life in the ashram. They feel happy, they eat nice sattvic food, they have some Bhajans and meet good people. They just want to live a good life in a good atmosphere like the ashram. But, if you want to be more serious in spiritual life – give 8 hours to sadhana minimum. If you are not doing eight hours sadhana you are not a true devotee. This should be very clear As Swami himself has clearly enunciated in his July 22, 2002 discourse : When you make efforts to melt ‘butter’ completely, the ‘foul smell’ will gradually subside. When man performs Sadhana the foul smell of evil propensities emanate from him during the process. He should continue with his Sadhana and overcome those evil tendencies. As he performs Sadhana more and more, all evil tendencies in him will evaporate like water. Ultimately, his Sadhana will yield the desired result just like pure ghee is obtained on heating butter. Hence ...Practice Sadhana FULL TIME ....AND do Seva ...with sincere devotion ...without any exclusions and alibis (like lack of will / time et al) based on human failities ! We should not jus DESIRE ...but DESERVE to EARN BABA's GRACE! How ? ..via SADHANA BORDER-BOTTOM: #d4d0c8"> + Seva Ram RAM RAM Thank you & God bless.
