As stated in the first part of this series, Swami went to Badri because the Nethralingam which was brought by “Adi Shankarar” from Kailash which is the central source of Holiness there had to be revived with spiritual efficacy. The visit to Badrinath was first mooted by Baba in 1958 at a Bhajan session held on the sands of the Chitravathi river and the visit became a certainty in 1961. Swami commenced his yatra with 200 devotees. Those devotees are so fortunate to take a holy yatra to divinity with the divinity. Swami Himself admitted their opportunity on the June 11, 1961 as – margin-left:.5in;text-align:justify"> width:2in;height:122.85pt;z-index:6;mso-wrap-distance-left:0; mso-wrap-distance-top:0;mso-wrap-distance-right:0;mso-wrap-distance-bottom:0; mso-position-horizontal:left;mso-position-horizontal-relative:text; mso-position-vertical:top;mso-position-vertical-relative:line' o:allowoverlap="f"> color:green">“Tomorrow we are leaving for Badri, a place consecrated by the Tapas of eminent sages and saints and of Sri Narayana Himself. You are all very fortunate indeed, for you are proceeding with the Manifested Form to the Unmanifested Form! There is a holy aura, a spiritual vibration, that pervades such sacred places and even Divinity acquires a new glory, as it were, when it is seen in the background of that aura. So, be ever alert to make the best of the rare chance that you have won by the accumulation of merit through many births. Be friendly, helpful and loving to all; repeat always the Name of the Lord; never loose courage or joy”. With all His motherly love He encouraged everyone along that gruelling road, advising one person to get into a dandi, another to ride a horse, a third to check the pace, a fourth to rest awhile, keeping everybody’s enthusiasm in good trim by a timely quip or joke or pleasantry, or sometimes even by means of the Divinely created Vibhuthi itself. His love for His devotees was limitless and all who were there were soaked in that divine love. 17th June was a Day of Days, a Day that will be enshrined in the memory of everyone in the party, for years and years. In pursuance of His Mission of re-infusing spiritual efficacy in all Holy Places where men congregate for acquiring peace and joy, a Mission which took Him to Ayodhya, Kasi and Prayag, Baba that day re–invigorated Narayana worship at Badrinath, by means of a unique ceremony, whose significance is beyond our tiny understanding. During the morning Abhishekam (sacred ceremonial bath) to the idol of width:157.5pt;height:118.65pt;z-index:1;mso-wrap-distance-left:0; mso-wrap-distance-right:0;mso-position-horizontal-relative:text; mso-position-vertical-relative:line' o:allowoverlap="f"> color:blue">Badrinarayana, Baba was inside the temple facing the shrine and mysteriously materialised a four armed Narayana icon with Sankha, Chakra, Gada and Padma. (This is the photo of the Netra Linga and Narayan Idol that was materialised by Swami) Arial;color:#993333"> He also created a charming thousand petalled ‘gold’ Lotus, and in front of the amazed people around Him, He waved His hand before the Shrine and, lo, there was a Jyothirlinga in His palm, which He placed on the shining Lotus. This was the lingam that was brought by Shankaracharyar from Kailaya and installed in the ‘molasthanam’ (sanctum of sanctorum) of the temple. It’s in a form of the eye and thus called as “Netra Lingam”. The eye lashes; the eye ball and the pupil inside could be seen very vividly. Swami had graciously taken the Linga round to everyone and made all to wonder at its quit effulgence and at a clearly visible Eye that was somehow incorporated in it. font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:blue">Materialising a ‘silver’ Abhisheka Vessel full of holy water from Gangothri itself (as He announced), Baba Himself performed left:0;text-align:left;margin-left:759.25pt;margin-top:0;width:102pt;height:84.65pt; z-index:2;mso-wrap-distance-left:0;mso-wrap-distance-right:0; mso-position-horizontal:right;mso-position-horizontal-relative:text; mso-position-vertical:top;mso-position-vertical-relative:line' o:allowoverlap="f"> color:blue">Abhisheka to that translucent “Nethra Lingam”. Devotees recited Sri Rudram, Purushasuktham and Narayana Suktham, while Baba was pouring the sacred water on the Lingam. Then, Swami created 108 miniature Bilva leaves or rather replicas of that holy leaf, in ‘gold’; color:purple;font-style:italic">(This is the photo of the “Bilva” leave manifested by Swami) color:blue"> they fell in a lightning shower from His Palm on to a silver plate. He again waved His Hand and this time, 108 actual ‘thumme’ flowers fresh with even the touch of the morning dew, fell from that Divine Palm! Ashtottara Puja, as mentioned in the Sastras was conducted. font-family:Arial;color:#993333"> color:blue">After Puja, Baba collected the Abhisheka Ganga and gave a share of it to each one, Himself pouring it into the mouth with His own merciful Hand. And Swami gave the Bilva leaves of ‘gold’ He gave to members of the party, as mementoes of the Momentous Day, for being duly worshipped by them. (Again the luck struck them so hard!!!) font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:blue"> font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:navy">What a blissful opportunity for all the people who were there! It was worshipped with golden Bilva leaves and Thumme flowers, both created by Me on the spot, and sent back to its original place. The Lingam was placed on a Golden Lotus, with three layers of petals, each having two smaller layers of 16 smaller petals---the entire Kamala (lotus) representing the Hridhaya (heart) where the Lingam has to be installed for worship.” TimesNewRoman;color:green"> color:navy"> font-weight:bold;font-style:italic">Discourse delivered at Prashaanthi Nilaya on, 4-7-1961 (From the Sathya Sai Speaks, volume 02- Chapter 11) "TimesNewRoman\,Italic";font-weight:bold"> color:navy"> color:navy">Is that all? When devotees pleaded from Swami to show them the return of the “Linga”, He narrated how the ‘Linga’ would return to its original place. He said - remaining invisible merging with the wind it moves along with the wind and not possible to see it in its form. But, it moves like a bee making a humming sound. Once it has reached the sanctum sanctorum of the temple the wooden plank plastered to the left side of the wall will fall back on its own. Then the lingam will reach its original place. color:navy">As stated by the Omnipresent when people rushed toward the temple they could hear the humming sound of the arrival of the Netra Linga. When the wooden plank moved the sound of the Netra Linga entering the sactum could be heard very clearly. Then plank fell back and got plastered to the wall. Devotees near by tried to pull the plank back but it didn’t budge at all.
