Who is a devotee of the Lord?

Sai Ram, dear Joe, I agree with you a hundred percent. People tell you things,

they tell you not to do this or to do that, but they are not you. You have your

own experience to live at the Divine Lotus Feet. And in the Divine Presence,

even very stern, strong looking men cry like little children! And people

usually very quiet at home and the Sai Centers, once at the Ashram, start

talking like parrots. I saw many extraordinary things take place before my eyes

in Prasanthi Nilayam.

Nobody knows what's going to happen once you are in the Divine Presence. Let's

proclaim it without fear or hesitation: He is God; what can we do, but love Him

and trust in Him? He is our Mother, Father, Intimate Friend, Savior, Guru and

God. He is our Beloved All! He is our own Divine Inner Self. We belong to Him

and He belongs to us. And He Himself has said that each and every relationship

between Him and each one of us is unique, intimate and cannot be duplicated.

He has also said that no one is apt to tell who is or not a devotee of the Lord.

Only the Lord Himself can confirm a person as His devotee. So if a person feels

him or herself to be a devotee, let him or her act as such. If anyone acts as a

devotee of the Lord, from the heart, I am sure divine blessings will follow and

He will direct his or her efforts in that direction.

On the other hand, as a hint, He Himself said in 1995, during the Sixth Sri

Sathya Sai World Conference and 70th Birthday Celebrations in Prasanthi

Nilayam, in the first of the 10 Main Directives He Himself gave to the

delegates from all over the world attending the Conference, instructing us all

to conduct study circles once home on them, that His devotees were those who

knew in their hearts that only through His Divine Name and Form they could

attain God-realization. Therefore, to begin with, according to His words, His

devotees are those who know in their hearts, without margin for doubt of

hesitation, that Sathya Sai Baba is God Incarnate.

Devotees are always trying to help each other and that is why they give each

other advice, and of course, we should take the advice lovingly given to us by

our brothers and sisters in Sai as gifts of wisdom and analyze it carefully to

see if we should act upon it. But in the end it is our (spiritual) heart or

Divine Inner Self who should lead us to the final decision. And when in doubt,

we have always the teachings, the LIving Word of the Living God to enlighten us

and dissipate our doubts.

The devotees used to ask me why I wrote so much to Swami, when He was aware of

everything that was happening to each and everyone of us all the time. I knew

they were right, but I had an urge in my heart to communicate with my God and

Friend, Mother, Father, Beloved and God. I had an urge beyond reason to want to

tell Him things, to be with Him, to express my feelings to Him, so I kept

writing as often as for as long as that urge was in my heart.

How glad I felt when, in the first inteview given to journalists from Mumbai in

25 years (since the one given to Karanjia) and asked how he felt about his

devotees writing to Him, Swami replied: "I love for My devotees to write to Me

and I read all their letters." I felt like showing everyone who had advised me

to the contrary what Swami had said.

So, I say to you, and all my dear brothers and sisters in Sai, when you feel the

impulse to write to our God, to talk to Him, to cry because of your love for

Him, to help another because his suffering touches you deeply, to do any kind

act or pray or sing to Him, to do anything coming from your loving hearts

because of your love for Him, trust in that love, trust in Him and do it. He

will receive it in His Divine Hands as your offering and bless you for it.

May Swami bless you all with His sweetest and choicest blessings. With much Sai love,

Gina
