Guest guest
Sai Ram, We always believe that Swami is a kind of Mother Figure and that we can always go running to him for succor crying, `Ma, help me!' I have two instances to prove that He is a Mother, indeed, though this happened a few years back. Once I was called by a voluntary org. in which I was an active member to assist old and poor patients who had their eyes operated upon. They said that I had to go with a few other older members to a city hospital at 6 in the morning and that lunch would be provided for. I left with the poor blind patients to another wing of the hospital for their glaucoma test that took all day. No body else came to replace me and I was left with the patients till their work was done. I was sick with hunger and parched to the tip of my tongue. (I had left home in the morning with a cup of coffee only). Work got over only at around 5 in the evening and being too tired to do anything else I returned home and went straight to bed with a headache. That night Swami appeared in a dream and said, `Don't go out anywhere. Stay home and write.' (I am a freelance writer for children). `If you have to go out, eat and then go.' Tell me, if not for one's mother who else would be so considerate? In another instance I had gone to Puttaparthy on Seva dhal duty. It was during Shivatrathri and akanda bhajans were held over the night. My duty with a few others began at 2 in the morning with sweeping the yard around the mandir and doing security service during the rest of the day till the crows returned home. That evening I was requested to stay back at the mandir after 6 till another seva dhal came to replace me. She arrived at around 8.45 and I being tired and asleep on my feet weaved my way back to the dormitory. On the way through sleep filled eyes I saw people returning to their digs with prasadam (Sugar pongal yum! Yum! and tamarind rice). At the dorm I spread out my mat and prepared to ooze down when another lady asked me if I had eaten my supper. For the next few minutes a heated argument followed with her forcing me to return to the canteen and eat and I refusing blatantly as I was too tired. `The canteen is almost closed. There would be nothing there, aunty.' I said. `I will go and see.' The kind lady offered. `I can get a chapatti for you.' `No, no,' I said, mildly irritated. `Why can't that old lady let sleeping souls lie? I grumbled to myself and said, `Alright, I will go and see if I can find myself a cup of buttermilk.' I weaved my way out again and on the way met another seva dhal an ex student of Swami's college. `Have you eaten?' she asked. `No, I haven't. Have you?' `Oh yeah, I got my prasadam along with the college students,' she said proudly. `I feel very tired,' I whined. `If this had been my mother's house she would have spoon fed me. This is not my mother's house. There is nobody here to even serve me food in my hand.' I went into the canteen where as I had expected the vessels were washed and left out to dry. `Try the quick meals section at the first floor,' said another kind lady there. I went upstairs and seeing my woebegone face the ladies there shook their heads and whispered words of sorrow. As I was coming down again I met a lady walking up the stairs with a bucket in her hand. And the bucket was filled to the brim with sugar pongal. I did not know who she was and even If I were to meet her today I would not know her. But she stopped me and said, `Have you eaten?' `No, I haven't. There is nothing left.' `Did you take prasadam?' `No. `There is so much sugar pongal. Come and eat.' `But the place is to be shut for the night. There is not even a plate for me to eat on nor a ladle for you to serve me.' That is alright,' said the lady. Come and sit on that chair and hold out both your hands.' And you won't believe it, folks, I sat there in the bikshaam dehi pose and she filled my palms with the sweet, hot sugar pongal and said, `Eat, eat. But slowly. Don't be in a hurry.' So I heartily ate the sweet dish (I loved it) washed my hands, burped happily and returned to my digs. Did I not tell you Swami is my Mother? buzzing like a bee drunk in Swami's divine nectar of love, Rajyalakshmi

Guest guest
Reading your mail I was instantly reminded [ with tears in my eyes ] the incident in my life when I was newly married and once made a surprise visit to my parents a little before lunch time. Cooking was completed. My mother had gone in for her shower before prayer to be followed by lunch. What stands out in my sweet memory is the way Mom gave instructions for the gas to be re-lit and the pot to be put on it to make sweet Sakara pongal as it was my favorite. My mother did not normally extend pleasentries with her daughters - she was a strict disciplinarian. Today when I read about the events at Prashanti Nilayam and whenever it is mentioned that Prasadam was distributed I cannot help but think how sweet like Amritham the sweet prsadams must be - just like Swami. I guess we could narrate more incidents like this like Love of Swami at Parthi. You are blessed and yes Love of Swami is like thousand mother's.
