ADIKAL

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:blue">In the kingdom where the river Kaveri

flows through beautifully was the town Emapperur.

There in the tradition of Vedic chanters who

live in the unique Shaivite discipline, came the ardent devotee of Lord Shiva

by the name of

"Comic Sans MS";font-style:normal">Naminandhi Adikal.

He was like the fire that is grown with truth of the Vedas, firmly believed in

the sacredness of Holy Ash, stood blissfully in holding up the feet of the

Blue-throated Lord. He with a great eagerness to salute the Lord of Thiruvarur

went there. Very many days he spent saluting the Supreme who smashed the three

cities into heaps of ash. Then he went to serve the Lord at the Araneri

abode. With his heart full of love, mind full

of

font-style:normal">Mahesha he prostrated before the Lord

and stood up in the interest of lighting the lamps thus serving the kindling

flame. By then the time was

already evening, and he went to a nearby house to ask for some ghee for the

lamps. The people in that house mocked at him saying while the God Himself

had the fire in His hand why unnecessarily he needed to put the light. They

further said, no ghee was available but if he wanted he could pour the water

from the pond to light the lamps. They laughed from the ignorance. Nayanar

was disheartened, went back to the temple and cried to the Lord who is his only

refuge.

10.0pt;font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:purple;font-weight:bold">There raised

a voice ordering him to shed the sorrow and pour the pond water in the lamps

and lit them. Praising the Lord of Lords who has the Sun, Moon and Fire as His

Three eyes, he brought the water from the pond and poured into the lamp. With

the world wondering, but with the ash smeared Lord’s blessing, he lit the

lamp that glowed till the dawn

color:blue">. He lit the complete sets of

lamps the same way to illuminate the abode fantastically. While the absolute

Source of energy is with him, what other source could be a hurdle! He continued

this service for many days and thereby

brought faith of God in the mind of unbelievers. The king donated

and organized many endowments for the service of the Lord.

Thiruvarur geared up for celebrating the auspicious Panguni

Uththiram

as part of the festivities

all caste and creed crossed their barriers and mingled together. What barrier,

caste, creed, age, sex, race, language or any form of life, could be there

while the

creature. Along with them our

Nayanar praised the God of nature. He returned home and was sleeping in the

darkness of night on the outside corridor of the house. His wife came out and

enquired why he did not do the

Lord's worship by growing fire that night and skipped the food. He replied to

her saying that as he mingled with

everybody the impurities from others would have followed him too. So, he

requested her to bring water to bathe and then start the Puja.

may be due to the wish of God he was taken by sleep immediately. The Lord came

in his dream and enlightened him that those who were born in the Thiruvarur

belong to His squad.

color:blue"> The devotee woke up shivering

and with realization. He felt bad

for not doing the night worship of the Ultimate Source and for his wrong thinking.

He the happenings to his wife and rushed to

Thiruvarur in the wake of dawn.

"Comic Sans MS";color:purple;font-weight:bold">As he entered Thiruvarur he saw

everybody living there to have the form of the Stain-throated Gold like body of

the God

behaviour he fell down on the ground saluted them and rejoiced

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:blue">.

"Comic Sans MS";color:purple;font-weight:bold">He saw the scene changed again

with people back in their normal form

color:blue">. He begged for excuse from the

Merciful Lord who showers the grace. Later he lived a life doing splendid

service to the God by serving all the devotees of the Supreme Lord irrespective

of their cast and creed. He had been praised by sages for his service to the

Lord and to His truthful slaves. With the world praising his service he was

blessed with eternal bliss by the Lord of Thiruvarur and he merged with the God.
