(Part vi)

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:blue">Worshiping the wide matted haired Lord

of Thiruvaiyaru, Appar traveled to the abodes near that wonderful town. Hearing

that the young victorious saint Sambandar was coming, old sage of matured love

with an increasing eagerness to salute the prodigy mingled without anybody's

notice in the huge crowd that was assembled to welcome the young saint. The

great men are more and more humble. The sage

who would be admired always for his service and devotion, appreciating whose

devotion the Lord showed even the Kailasham at Thiruvaiyaru humbly went and

carried the pearl

"Comic Sans MS";font-style:normal">pallack (palanquin,

litter) of Thirunyanachampandhar feeling that as a boon. When the pallack

reached Thiruppunthuruththi, Sambandar enquired where the great sage Appar Peruman

was. To that the modest marvelous sage replied, "Thy slave got the great

boon of carrying thy feet and am here." Appalled to see this Sambandhar

jumped out hurriedly from the pallack to prostrate to the great sage and asked

with shivering words why did that revered great sage did that. The sage saluted

him in all love and said how else he could serve the great

Thirunyanachampandhar. The entire ocean of crowd roared to see the meeting of

those two huge oceans of devotion.

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:blue;font-weight:bold">After worshiping the

abodes in Pandiya kingdom he came back to the Chola kingdom to the town called Pumpukalur.

Serving the Supreme there with melting heart everyday he sang lots of his

famous

font-style:normal">Thiruth Thandakams and many other

songs.

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:purple;font-weight:bold">The God who grants

the sea of grace wanted to show to the entire world the undisturbed blissful

state of mind of the sage

bold">He made gold and gems to appear along with the sand and stone in the

temple premises. Considering them as valuable as the rolling stones on

the path when doing the cleaning service in the abode he through them along

with normal stones with his hand plow into the pond. He was too rich with the

great wealth of Shiva who is the Lord of everything with him - to treat the gems

superior to pebbles. To that sage who had won one major distraction of desire

for wealth, the beautiful girls of the Heaven on whose beauty even the valiant

people would fail to control themselves. They used to dance, sing, pour flowers

on him and did all the tricks to infatuate him. But the Thirunavukkarachar

Peruman not al all distracted. He who has an unwavering mind on the unparalleled

feet of the Bliss Giving Beauty sang a hymn meaning "What do I require

from you? Am the slave of the Lord of Thiruvarur. Don't strain yourselves".

Unable to distract the immense devotee who is inseparably involved in the God,

the beautiful ladies from heaven saluted him and returned back. If the blessing

of the Lord who burnt the lust is there even the unfailing arrows of the cupid

will fail.

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:blue;font-weight:bold">With such an

unperturbed form of devotion, Appar - the King of Words stayed in that coveted

blissful state enjoying the Lord’s grace for some time.

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:purple;font-weight:bold">Then he sat under

the eternally blissful feet of the Attributeless Lord Shiva singing

Appar attained the eternal bliss of Lord Shiva.

the reach of covering. Great is the God, marvelous was this sage, superior was

his service, kindling are his hymns!!!!

“Thirunavukarasar”

comes to an end, but the Periyapuranam series will continue)
