Guest guest
Guru Poornima is known as "VYASA POORNIMA" and observed all over the country with great reverence by Sadhus, Rishis and sanyasis. This sacred day (Guru Poornima) falls every year on the fifteenth (15) day of Ashada month (July). On this day, VYASA BHAGAWAN, called in different names as VEDA VYASAR, BHADARAYANAR, KRISHNA DWAIPAYANAR, who is the author of VEDAS, MAHABHARATHAM and composer of 18 puranas was chosen by the ancient Rishis / Munis as their spiritual preceptor (GURU) and worshipped by them with great reverence. Further, these Rishis have to stay at one place and do all their rites (religious ceremonies for four months commencing from "GURU POORNIMA", (Now they are observing only for two months commencing from GURU POORNIMA). They cannot wander (move) from one place to another because rainy season starts; during rainy season insects freely move in the open space and they will be trampled by these wandering saints and sadhus incurring great sins. The Rishis / Sadhus / Munis are really great Blessed souls for having Holy VEDAVYASAR to guide them and when they sang & danced around Sri VEDAVYASAR who was in the centre, they went into rapture, fully merged in divine conciousness. Seeing their pure devotion, Lord Krishna has descended from heaven & mixed with them & danced, playing the flute. All of them were extremely pleased to have His Darshan and Prostrated before Him. All the Gods from heaven were watching this wonderful leela of Lord Krishna, with excitement. Now let us (Sai Devotees) understand what "GURU POORNIMA" means to us. Upto the year 1908 Guru Poornima was not known to Shirdi people. One day Baba called his Devotees, Dada Kelkar, School Master Shyama & a few others, asked them to do special pooja to Him. Sri Dada Kelkar went home and referred to "Panchangam" (calender) and it happened that day to be "Guru Poornima" (Vyasa Poornima) as mentioned in the calender. Then he understood why Baba asked all of them to do special pooja to Him on that day. The local Devotees spent their full night singing and dancing in praise of Samartha Sadguru Sai Baba. From this day (from 1908) on wards, Guru Poornima is being celebrated at Shirdi on a very grand scale. More than one lac of Devotees from all parts of the country and abroad gather on this occasion (Guru Poornima day) and worship Lord Sai with great reverence. So, we Sai Devotees should worship our Samartha Sadguru on this Guru Poornima day with Tan, Man, Dhan (Body, mind & wealth) with great reverence. If it is not possible to do 'Pooja' in our homes/we can go to Sai Temples / Mandirs or wherever it is conducted and participate in the "Pooja", Bhajan etc., conducted there (Group singing) and receive the Blessings of Samartha Sad guru Sai Nath Maharaj. The best thing is to do "Nama Japa" (Chanting of Baba's Taraka mantra OM SAI SRI | SAI JAYA JAYA SAI) or Sai Bhajans throughout the night invoking Baba's Blessings. Baba is Baktha Paradeena (Bonded! slave of His true Devotees) and He will definitely bless all of us with peace, plenty longevity of life and also will enable us to merge finally in the eternity of Baba.
