A special day and special festival. Poornima is a day dear to the Mother. Both

full moon and new moon days are good for propitiating forefathers. In

astrology, moon is matru karaka. Austerities on this day please the spirit of

one's mother. It is on this day that the Umamaheswara vratam is observed.

Ancients believed that austerities on poornima in the months Chittirai and

Aippasi keep the souls of ancestors resting in peace.

Guru Poornima is the day when the disciple wakes up in his fullness and

expresses gratitude. The purpose of the Guru Poornima celebration is to review

the year and see in how much one has progressed in life and to renew one's

determination and focus on the progress on the spriritual path.

Guru Puja (literally "worship of the guru") is a practice consisting of making

offerings to and requesting inspiration from the guru. Vows and commitments

made by the disciple or chela, which might have lost their strength are

renewed.

The psychological effect of a worship, done on the full moon day of every month

is to vividly remind us of the higher power that maintains a constant watch over

every act of ours on this earth-plane. This memory serves as an invisible check

on one's conduct.

Love all,serve all
