Free health check for 750

PEKAN, PAHANG, Mon. More than 750 villagers, including Orang Asli, turned up

for a one-day free medical, health and dental camp at SK Bebar, Merchong, 50km

from here, yesterday.

Co-organising chairman Dr R. Selva Malar, who is Malaysian Medical Association

Pahang chairman, said the patients were screened for hypertension, obesity,

diabetes, oral cancer, vision and hearing problems.

 

Dental extractions and pap smears were also carried out, she said.

 

Dr Malar said many of them had multiple health problems such as diabetes,

hypertension and vision problems.

 

"Cases needing further examination and treatment have been referred to the Pekan

Hospital and Kuantan’s Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan," she said.

 

Organising chairman P.S. Gill said 24 doctors assisted by nurses, paramedics and

general volunteers attended to the patients from 9am to 4pm.

 

The camp was jointly organised by the Sai Baba centres of Pahang, MMA Pahang and

the State Government.

 

State Health, Welfare and Orang Asli Affairs committee chairman Datuk Ishak

Muhamad officiated at the event.

 

A blood donation campaign and health exhibition by the Nenasi Health Clinic were also held.
