This

is the continuation of the “Periyapuranam

Series”…………………..

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:blue;font-weight:bold">This is a splendid story

of “Thirujnana Sambandar“, a child at the age of three who obtained

the grace of God. This child elucidated to all the people the independence from

worldly bonds; by simple but striking hymns. He was a container of the unlearnt

knowledge of the Truth; was saluted by great scholars and elderly people; was

an outstanding prodigy. As his life had many incidents that reveals the

God’s love. I’ll

be putting his story in few parts.

font-weight:bold">11. (Part i) THIRUJNANA SAMPANDHAR NAYANAR

font-weight:bold">

font-family:"Comic Sans MS"">In the ancient Chola kingdom there was a town Chirkali where

the Lord with His consort Gowri came

on a boat to bless and reside during a deluge. In that sacred town lived

“Shivapadahridayar” and

his wife “Bhagavathiyar” who belonged to the

ancestry of “Kavuniyar”. He was always worried for the ignorant

world which continuously moves away from the God and getting drowned in worldly

matters that does not lead to obtaining the grace of God, enlightenment,

liberation.

bold">By the mercy of the Lord he received a wonderful child who was born to

emphasize the truth of Vedas, uphold the discipline of Sanatana dharma, spread

the glory of God, centralize devotion via “pann” (bhajan), take the

high philosophies of scriptures to the masses, show the world the grace of the

Lord thus putting it in peace and happiness.

font-family:"Comic Sans MS"">When he was three years old, one morning he was

adamantly crying to go with his father to the pond where the father used to

take bath before doing the daily worship. Unable to convince the child he took

him along to the pond. Making him to be seated by the bank he went into the

pond and did all the rituals saluting the Lord of “Thiriththoninipuram”.

bold">When he had a dip in the water, the child got extremely scared by not

seeing his father. He cried loudly and heavily in panic looking at the “Kopuram”

(tower) of the Lord of Chirkali” as "Amme Appa". (means

in Tamil as ‘mother! father!’).

bold">The Parents of the Universe who are just love in wholesome, appeared on

the holy Bull immediately there. Giving a graceful look at the weeping child

the compassionate Father (Lord Shiva) told the Mother (Parvathi) to feed the

child with Her holy breast milk. The most caring Mother who gave birth to the

worlds took the milk from Her breast in a golden bowl fed the child the milk with

the knowledge of truth of Lord Shiva, wiping the tears of the child.

bold">As the child had the fortune of drinking the milk of “Jnanam”

(knowledge of the Lord that is the knowledge of liberation from the incarnation

cycle, the knowledge of unparalleled art, the knowledge of the Truth) he was

admired as “Jnana Sambandar”.

bold">With the Lord Shiva’s immense grace, at such an early age of

“three” he realised that everything is made by the Lord’s

will only and the greatness of devotees is to smash the ego of the

ignorants who think always self-centered.

font-family:"Comic Sans MS";color:blue;font-weight:bold">The Shivapadhiriyar

(physical father) after completing the rituals saw the young son standing with

traces of milk on his mouth. That honest disciplined father angrily asked who

gave him the milk and took a stick.

bold">With tears of unlimited joy surfacing in his eyes, with a hand pointing

to the beautiful Lord with the Parvati, beginning with the first vowel (o) of

holy Vedas, started to sing his first “pann” (bhajan). He sang the T

ornated ear") stating that "He is the Lord who did like this to

me". Also he stated in it that “when the people who did mistakes if

surrender to God they would get His grace.”

bold">The Devas and heavenly people showered the rain of flowers. The sound

“Hara” echoed

in the sky. Everywhere the praise of the Lord was heard. The Lord proceeded to

His abode at Thiruth thonipuram. Seeing the Thief who stole his heart going

inside the abode the small magnificent child over the stream of eagerness and

love followed. His blessed father though unable to see the Lord understood the

grace of God and the happenings from the meaning of the hymns. He followed with

excitement and love his wonderful child. The chanters of the Vedas who came

there were astonished to note the event. Going to the abode where the Lord is

with the consort on the boat the prodigy said that the Lord who blessed him was

there with Uma. When he started from the temple prostrating to the Lord his

father took him on his shoulders. There was an ocean of devotees who praised

their boon of having a son who at the age of three is blessed to recite

remarkable songs.

font-family:"Comic Sans MS"">The next day morning he went with eagerness to

salute the Lord's abode “Thirukkolakka”. He praised the Essence of

the Vedas with the hymns.

color:blue;font-weight:bold">When he was singing these hymns clapping his tiny

hands, the kind father caring for the bud like child of strong love gave a pair

of golden cymbals (percussion plates) with His holy five letters engraved in

it. Accepting His grace by his head the young great completed the padhikam. The

distinguished musicians of the heaven like Thumburu, Naradhar praised

the child. All the devotees saluted the blessed the child. Unable to bear the

young feet walking when he was returning back to Chirkali his father took him

over his shoulders. He went to the temple

of Thiruththonipuram to

salute the Lord after reaching Chirkali.

color:blue;font-weight:bold">Then the mother who gave birth to that boon of the

world, along with the devotees came and saluted her loving son - the saint “Thirujnana

Sambandar”. The entire town was pleased to salute and see the superior

devotee.

font-weight:bold">Let this fortune of the child who obtained the God’s

grace at the very early age fill our mind!!!
