Guest guest
Sai Ram Light and Love Swami teaches.... (19 June 2005) Spirituality with Science and Education - Creative Power for Humanity Ancients saints of Bharatiya realised unity in diversity and recognised human's innate divinity. They stressed the need for unity and cooperation among human beings. They prayed, “Let us move together, let us grow together, let us grow in intelligence together, let us live in harmony with each other without giving room for conflicts.” Everyone aspires for bliss. In order to attain everlasting bliss, one studies sacred texts, listens to the discourses undertakes pilgrimages, performs prayers and various spiritual practices. But none of these confers entirely bliss. There are five sheaths in every human being, namely, annamaya kosha (food sheath), pranamaya kosha (life sheath), manomaya kosha (mental sheath), vijnanamaya kosha (wisdom sheath) and anandamaya kosha (bliss sheath). None of these can give true happiness. It cannot be attained from outside. It originates from the heart. To experience true happiness, human should develop firm faith in God. God alone is the source and basis of bliss. Truth is the basis of God. Righteousness is the basis of truth. Love is the basis of righteousness. Faith is the basis of love. Human should have total faith that there is God within. Is God immanent or transcendental? It seems not correct question. Transcendental is transcendental and cannot be explained by words. There may be only the speculations about it. He is not this, not that but may have these both potencies. He is beyond the existence Universe we can percept. However, human's consciousness is as a holographic pattern what reflects the Divine not only as general reflection but as somekind self-reflection, manifestation of Brahman (Atma, Cosmic Consciousness). It is in ceaseless vibration, ever in search to be merged with its prime Source, Creator. It seems to be the aim of spiritual outlook. By Swami a human body, is a temporary rest-house for the spirit. It is the divine product of creation in the process of evolution by the laws of Creation. By Katha Upanishad God (Brahman) is beyond sound and form, without touch and taste and perfume. It is eternal, unchangeable, and without beginning or end. Photon appears as a wave and as a particle; it depends on the methods of measurement and observer who is as witness, but not entirely. So, the act of observation influences what is observed. (Watching, when it is done from the outside, has a transforming effect. Also many everyday situations are confirming it). Which is absolute truth about photon? There is no such absolute truth. It is beyond of observer and observation, beyond of scientific perception. It is causal appearance of Atmic Reality. This example shows that in the area of creation the same rules (related to human's perception) are in action, be it Omnipresent God or photons or whatsoever bizarre subatomic particles 'created' by human's consciousness as witnesses of relative truth. The conclusion by Vedic wisdom and Swami is that all is only One what reflects (self-reflects) through Maya Reality - infinite forms and appearances. This is true from standpoint of human mind (consciousness) what is never can be quiet, creating the illuminative world of desires within. Human consciousness is ever in search, by his nature longing for fusing back into the Great Oneness. There is no need to search absolute reality on the whole Universe there is no such reality. Speculating, maybe, such absolute reality is the Great Zero, the Great Nothing with infinite potencies to create pulsation of material universes and infinite holographic forms of consciousness as Its own reflection from endless angles. The role of modern physics, especially its principles of indeterminacy, uncertainty is essential discoveries which indicate the need integration the science and spirituality. By Ishopanishad it is as balance and harmony between the perishable and the imperishable. Who inspire the perishable reaches into nowhere and who inspire the imperishable reaches too into nowhere. Who inspire at the same time both and takes them as different qualities of One and the same, are happy and aware knowing the Self and purpose their mundane life. Such awareness can lead humanity to the upper stage of development. Let's remember, how many times in different contexts during tens of years Swami has stressed the urgent need of integration science with spirituality. Swami is as a witness who is beyond ego. Reading His texts or taking part in direct or virtual darshans it seems that ego as scatters, transforms into dispassionate observer and the world appeares as from outside. Such external watching can cause some inner transformation, independence and at the same time it is a spiritual experience. By my experiences to obtain the possibility of outside watching (as witness?) is difficult in everyday life conditions. Even the sacred rituals and places, do not help when a person has no inner motivation to this. Swami's darshans and Teaching are as mighty inner motivator for this transformation what gives peace, compassion to all beings and at the same time the detachment as all what exist is One in the light of eternity. As the mind, so the Earth is not a rest. It moves around the Sun. The Sun orbits the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. The Milky Way Galaxy orbits in the Local Group of Galaxies. The Local Group falls toward the Virgo Cluster of Galaxies. the Local Group moves at about 600 kilometers per second relative to the cosmic microwave background (primordial) radiation. By by modern discoveries these speeds are less than the speed that all of these objects together move relative to this primordial radiation. This high speed was initially unexpected and its magnitude is still unexplained. Why are we moving so fast? What is out there? Such are the questions what science unable to solve without spiritual consciousness. That is the also the urgent scientific proof to integrate spirituality and science. Recently astronomers have discovered an Earth-like planet orbiting a distant normal star. Previously over 150 gas-giant planets like Jupiter had been so discovered. The observations prove evidence for a planet with a likely mass slightly higher than a minimum six times the mass of Earth. The planet's small mass indicates that it is likely terrestrial in nature, similar in composition to the inner planets of our Solar System. All in the Universe is the appearances of the Great Oneness. Observing the play of light around human body, drop of water or crystal, we percept that all in the world is interrelated, and whatsoever object , large or small, has its own inner energy. Even by modern science may conclude that life is not only material body but at first it is energy, and therefore - spirit. It is the new outlook of holistic science. Science has discovered the new methods of observation of human biological field (and other fields) under influence of therapy, meditation, prayer, love, etc. This is another scientific proof that the world around us is not only what is seen but sustained by spiritual power. By Swami secular education is for happiness in the mundane world and spiritual education is for happiness in the other world. In order to acquire spiritual education, one must spend some time in enquiry. Spiritual knowledge cannot be acquired with secular education. Science deals with the physical aspect of the universe. It strives to explore the secrets of the universe, and not beyond. Spirituality is a knowledge beyond this which forms the basis for its creation, existenceand dissolution. Spiritual education begin with enquiry “Who am I”? The answer to this question consists in many previous contributions of this serial. Without this basis science has no effect. You are drawing wealth out of Prakrithi (nature). Human being is a part of society. That society is a part of Prakrithi what in turn, is associated with the Paramatma (Supreme Being). It is Prakrithi that teaches human how to succeed in the hard struggle and win Prashaanthi - Supreme Peace. Prakrithi is the manifestation of Purusha (God or Supreme Being). When you desire to master Prakrithi, and bend it for your needs, you have to earn the grace of Purusha. The unity of Purusha and Prakrithi is human life. So, every human being is androgynous. So, approach your work in a reverential humble spirit. Raavana sought Seetha (who is Prakrithi, since she was the daughter of the Earth, discovered by Janaka in the furrow on the field he was ploughing). But, he did not first win the grace of Raama, the Purusha (God), who is the master of Prakrithi. So he brought untold disaster on his head and on the heads of all his kinsmen, clan, and followers. Vijnana (higher knowledge) and prajnana (supreme wisdom) are not merely products of education.Human can acquire these sacred powers only by culture and refinement gained through education. What is culture? Culture is the conscious effort to achieve a transformation in the daily life from untruth to truth; from nonconformance to conformance to scriptural authority and from evanescence to eternity. Such divinity is in every human being as the embodiment of truth. Everyone is obliged to protect Sathya (truth) and Dharma (righteousness) as the entire universe is based upon them. It is important to repeat that human does not love objects or individuals for their sake but for self-interest. All thoughts, words and deeds are motivated by selfishness. Human being is spending all time and effort in fulfilling own desires. But true happiness lies in the state of desirelessness. Ages have gone by and the world has undergone many changes; but there is no transformation in the human heart. Some people say that education is bringing about a change in human. But what type of change is it? It is a peculiar change that is leading to perversion of human mind instead of transforming his heart. People are wasting their life by cultivating bestial qualities and by indulging in demonic deeds. True spirituality lies in destroying one’s bestial nature and rising to the level of the divine. He is a true devotee who considers God’s happiness as his own. Consider that God’s happiness is your happiness and your happiness is God’s happiness. Imbibe this spirit of oneness. “God and I are one.” It is impossible to attain happiness without making others happy. Sage Vyasa has given the essence of eighteen Puranas in two sentences, Paropakara punyaya, papayaparapeedanam (one attains merit by serving others and commits sin by hurting them). When you help others, you will receive help tenfold. If you harm others, you will be put to harm ten times more. (Reet’s compilation using sources, Bhagawan Sathya Sai Baba. PS: From 18 June 2005 serial "Swami teaches" has little changed its form. Separate contributions are little shorter, they as an independent articles using Swami's Works entwined with discoveries of modern science, with own insights and thoughts.
